Elephant Transit Home, Udawalawa

Orphan and injured elephants are cared for/raised here for eventual release into the wild. They say there are as many as 50 elephants being cared for here, mostly young. At feeding time, the young ones come up to a rail where they take a hose in the mouth. The other end has a funnel milk is poured into. Some of the littlest are bottled fed.
