    Villages near Yogyakarta

    We spent a morning cycling through a village area where much is still quite traditional. The 1st two pictures are of the process of making tempeh or fermented soybean. First are bins of soybeans that have been boiled but not yet fermented. The 2nd picture is of half fermented, not yet tempeh (you can still see the beans); the other is finished tempeh, ready for the market. Next are hand made bricks, set out for air/sun drying before being fired. 4th is a farmyard with strawberries, lemon basil, chilis and more growing as a kitchen garden. Next is a large field of lemongrass. Last is a picture of several women working on batik, a traditional craft that uses wax as part of the many step process. The final fabrics are spectacular. They are even used for kimonos.Read more
