Harran

Abraham's home town but not his birth town. It is said that this is where he left from to eventually get to the promised land. Harran is only 18 km from the Syrian border.
The 1st two pictures look at traditional "beehive" houses. These are mud brick constructions that are naturally well insulated with the chimneys providing air circulation in addition to smoke removal. Pictures 3&4 are inside one of these that has been repurposed into a shop. You can see the corbel work in the chimney. 5th is a picture of what remains of a 4,000 test old castle said to have been built by the Hittites. The last picture looks over what they call the oldest university ever founded, dating back over 2500 years ago. There is some restoration work to show an old city gate.Meer informatie
