Tiryns

This is the 3rd of the 3 principal Mycenaean citadels (see posts for Midea and Mycenae). Of the 3, this is the one closest to the coast. It is also the one least restored.
The 1st picture is a view of the citadel from the surrounding area. The 2nd picture is of the main gate that enters the lower citadel at the base of the cliff upon which the upper citadel sits.. The 3rd picture is the gate between the upper citadel and the lower citadel. The 4th picture looks across the upper citadel. The 5th picture is the south gate that accesses directly to the upper citadel through a narrow walled corridor that is well protected from above. The last picture looks across the lower citadel, taken from the upper citadel.Read more
