Chabahar is a free trade port on the Gulf of Oman and is the largest port in the south of the country. Part of its importance comes from its location outside of the Strait of Hormuz.
The community dates back over 4,000 years and was known as Tiz, at least until the time of Alexander the Great.
Chabahar is not on the usual tourist routes in Iran that are generally farther north. From a nearby "sites" perspective, there are: the Pink Lake whose color is faded in this light; the Temple Tree, where people traditionally gathered for all sorts of communal activities; the "Martian Mountains"; and Beris Port.
