• F*** Boris , his unelected lab rats & Ea

    8 juni 2021, Portugal ⋅ ☀️ 24 °C

Well after an amazingly short 3 weeks Portugal is back on the Amber list! How is that even possible? They are playing games with people's lives, mental health, well being and finances. After the mass evacuation from here to beat the amber dead line, Easy jet have cancelled all out going flights for the rest of June! So with the car parked at the long term park at Luton we are looking for new return flights. Might be lucky with a Ryan air flight that fly's into Stanstead other than that it will be Gatwick or Heathrow and a trek to retrieve the car
Will never vote for Boris or his lab rats again!!!

  • Arrive early owing to covid restrictions

    3 juni 2021, Portugal ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

Once in the terminal you notice that 1) there is no one there, and 2) most of the shops are closed. Luton has been voted the worst airport in England, and I can't see that changing any time soon! At least there was one coffe shop open so we did mange to get a coffee, but all other places were closed. So we decided to go through. But no! We were too early and the auto barriers were remianed closed to us. A helpful guard explained that we were actually 6 minutes early, so we stood there for 6 minutes before the barriers would allow us in.

Went through to security and never have I seen such a deserted place. There was no one, we were alone in the security area with just 5 security guards waiting for a customer! Obviously that was a breeze.

Had 4 hours to wait for the flight, so much for arriving early. As previous pictures show, it was mostly empty and most of the shops were closed. Only Pret Mange and a pub were open, so we had a sandwich and headed for the pub. This place was a bargain at 7 pound a pint!, but with nothing else open what can you do!!.

Had no probllems with the dubious boarding cards so got on the flight and it even arrived 15 minutes early.

When we arrived in Portugal the passport control was a breezy and the arrivals hall was as empty as Luton, but at least we were here.

  • Leaving the UK

    1 juni 2021, Portugal ⋅ ⛅ 19 °C

Well the one thing I forgot to add to my list of problems while booking this holiday was that they also changed my car parking at the airport. After booking in the long term car park I received an email stating it was closed and directed me to mid term car park.

So we arrived at the mid term car park to find barrier won't let us in. Fortunately a guy was at hand to help us, and with his help we contacted customer service on the intercom. Although the call wasn't directed to an Indian call centre, it might just have well been!! Couldn't understand a word he said!! Luckily the guy physically in the car park was able to translate.

The long term car park had just opened that morning so I could now go and park there, not that anyone told me. However, as I had all the documentation of the change I could park were I was and explain it on my return. So we stayed where we were.

For some unexplained reason, there were no buses running from the our car park to the airport, so we had an enjoyable 10 minute walk with all our luggage across the dual carriageway, along the fume filled underpass and up the hill to the airport terminal on the hottest day of the year so far!

Amazingly, I have had better starts to a holiday!

The pictures show the departure lounge at Luton airport!

  • Get ready during Covid!!!

    31 maj 2021, England ⋅ ☀️ 20 °C

Off on holiday tomorrow, but this was probably the most stressful thing I've ever done! Should be going to Portugal, but here is a summary of what happen so far:

Booked for Bodrum, Turkey for early May.
Change it to late May owing to the Turkish lockdown.

    Easy jet canceled the flights.
Rebooked for a few days later.

Become apparent Turkey was not going to happen, so changed flights to Portugal.
Changed seats to upfront on both flights, which included 2 cabin bags.

Found out I had changed outward bound flight, but not return so have a flight to Portugal and a return from Bodrum.
    Changed return flight to Portugal.

Easyjet changed the plane for return flight so seat layout different, had to check.

Next day changed plane on outward flight so seat layout changed. had to check.

It is IMPOSSIBLE on Easyjet to find out what cabin bags you are entitled to without checking in and printed your boarding pass.

Checked in. While 2 cabin bags are allowed on return journey, only one (small one) allowed on outward flight even though we are up front with extra leg room with priority boarding and website clearly states we are allowed 2 cabin bags.

Email Easyjet. Easyjet do not respond to emails except a standard reply not actually replying to the question.

To solve problem I decided to check in 1 bag on outward trip. But no! You can not book a bag one way, only 2 ways.

Email Easyjet again. Still standard automated response.

Phone Easyjet, managed to get through to India.
Customer service rep stated that I should be entitled to 2 bags. He did send me an email to confirm that but could not change my boarding pass which still states one small bag.

So on to Covid. Waited until the NHS showed my vaccination status.
Read somewhere that I didn't need a Covid test if I had both jabs, but not able to confirm. So order PCR test for Portugal.

Read that I must also have proof of test for day 2 of my return, so ordered that a few days later.

Also need a test when you leave Portugal to enter the UK, so had to investigated clinics in Portugal that could do this.

Completed test yesterday, had to drive to Doncaster airport, a 50 mile return trip, to drop results as the testing labs are in Belfast.

Didn't know results until today, both negative.

Let's not forget Portugal's requirements! You must complete an online Passenger Locator Form. Unfortuneately with 10,000 soccer holigains desending on Porto for an English final (!) the web site crashes, but only after you have entered all of the sodding information of course!! Tried for 3 days updating the form each time before it crashes. Printed the forms and filled then in. One last change on day 4, and lo and behold I managed to get form accepted! Printed it out anyway!!

So, with paperwork an inch thick and still unsure of what will happen with my cabin bags we're off to the airport tomorrow. Believe me I NEED this holiday!!!

Stay tuned for nightmare at the airport!!

  • Back in UK

    17 september 2020, England ⋅ ☀️ 15 °C

After carefully keeping social distancing in Portugal ( Covid rate 25 per 100,000) we are now back in UK. Luton airport 200 people crammed into a space less than quarter of a football pitch with Covid rate 190 per 100,000 (Bolton) to 70 per 100,000 else where and I am suppose to self isolate!!!!
Had to fill in online forms, get a bar code from UK gov to show immigration. Yea right. No one checked, no one looked, no one cared!!

Had a nice meal with Lisa & Rich . Very nice place got thrown out at 11 o'clock due to newly introduced covid restrictions.
Drive to Porto and got a night in an airport hotel, flight leaves tomorrow morning.
Could have got a late flight tonight but with a 2 hour drive home from Luton a night in a hotel and morning flight works out best.

  • Foodcourt Coimbra

    8 september 2020, Portugal ⋅ ⛅ 32 °C

Went to Coimbra today to pickup oven and floor tiles for Lisa's place. 'big' city Coimbra. Had an old sector where we stayed last year, but outside it's just like any other city. Went to shopping mall where they had large food court (pic 1) and to Portugal's equivalent to B & Q (pic 2).Läs mer
