    Wellsboro was incorporated in 1830 and was named in honor of Mary Wells, wife of one of the original settlers, Benjamin Wistar Morris. Wellsboro Historic District is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
    Wellsboro City Park is home to Wynken, Blynken, & Nod Statue (fountain). It is not only beautiful and nostalgic, artistically refined but also warm and tender in its connotation. Apparently "Wynken, Blinken and Nod" is a Dutch Lullaby created by Eugene Field in 1889. Its words are written down on the 1976 tablet founded by Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital Family and placed in front of the fountain.
    The monument in the middle of the fountain was created by Mabel Landrum Torrey around the year of 1920 and it was exhibited in Chicago Art Institute where she studied. Besides Wellsboro similar statue was created for Washington Park in Denver city. The dedication of the fountain in Wellsboro took place in 1938
