San Tirso

Santo Tirso has many churches dedicated to him owning to a cult like following. Saint Thyrsus is a venerated martyr who died in Phrygia after suffering many tortures. Eventually his persecutors took a saw to him, but half way through it became too heavy to manage and he was dispatched by beheading. That is why his device is the saw you see here on his right. You’d think he would be the patron saint of lumberjacks, but that is reserved for Simon the Apostle who died in a similar manner.Leggi altro
