    Start!

    July 11, 2023 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 55 °F

We store our trailer at The Toy Garage in Lake Stevens. It’s brand new and I saw it during a Gourmet Bicycle Club ride. We stock up the fridge, torque the bolts and hit the road. The strategy is “Stay away from Seattle and Portland” so we use the 405/167 bypasses as well as the 205 in Portland.Read more

After 1 or 2 wrong turns we made it here by 3:30 pm. A/C worked well and after a few anxious moments we figured out the warming fridge (it’s propane/electric absorption).
A delicious dinner of Chicken Marbella, cous cous, and salad and Fort George Magnetic Fields hazy IPA.Read more

  • The heat of the central valley of Calif.

    July 13, 2023 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 93 °F

We made it to Fairfield by about 3:00 and took about an hour to land. The drive out of Ashland was a substantial series of up grades and then eventually we passed into California and the view had peeks of Mt. Shasta and then definitely it dominated for over an hour. Traffic was light until Lake Shasta, where local traffic picked up. We continued stopping at selected rest stops as the heat began to turn up. Olive was a champ. The north part of the Sacramento Valley was hotter at about 98 and cooled down a little to 94 in Fairfield. Site 60 was a little short, and exposed to afternoon sun. We had a burble with the leveling software as it indicated flat and then down on the drivers side by 1.75” which we did not see until after unhitching, so rehitched and leveled up. Be sure to stabilize be fore the awning goes out?? A/C is just making it a little comfortable.

Beginning to see why advice is to stay a day or three at any place. The pace of packing up, then traveling, then landing is tiring.

Sunday Met Marty and Barb for breakfast burritos at Castelli’s sandwich shop. Ran fridge on propane for a while. Tried fridge on 3 snowflakes and then had it open for an extended time and it started blinking again. Turned up to four and it had resolved in under an hour. Late afternoon, took Olive to a dog park. Dinner out at Manuel’s.
Loren did laundry evening of 6th day at a very clean laundry room. 2$ wash & 2$ dry. Got laundry soap from the market across the street.

  • Back to Vacaville

    July 17, 2023 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 99 °F

Day 7 woke up at 6:30 fridge at 34 and Freezer at -1, had set in four snowflakes. Loaded with extra ice (from cooler- 2 gallon ziplock bags and a couple frozen Tupperware’s of water. Easy morning as check out was noon. Started final clean up at 10:45 and were pulling out at 11:40.
Went south on 1 to 129 and cut over to 101 to avoid HWY 17. Quick stop at a Shell to use bathroom. Tough turn for Loren almost wiped out a sign.
Turned onto park at 3:10 and AC running with fridge turned on by 3:30. Fridge at 42 and freezer at 20. Found out hadn’t cleared shower gel or latched shower door. All ok but could have been a problem. Also forgot bungee on cabinet with glasses and they had fallen. Good all are plastic or metal! Aft door to trailer didn’t latch lock so appeared to have been held closed by outside handle/ bar.

Attempted propane and green light stayed on but temp rose. Went back to Electricity. Stayed between 46 and 48 with freezer dropping to high teens, snowflakes blinking until we went to bed. AM fridge at 32 and freezer at 4 no blinking flakes.
