Greece - Santorini
23. maj, Grækenland ⋅ 🌧 18 °C
We booked a tour through the ship for today. We meet at the theatre at 7.30am then got ushered to the tender to get to the port. It was only a short 5 minute trip by boat. We met up with the tour operator and jumped on the bus headed for Oia (pronounced ‘eeya’). It started sprinkling on the way up. We, (and many others), hadn’t packed any wet weather gear. 😩 by the time we got to the top and listened to our guide’s information, we were already damp. We continued on our own, lining up for the “iconic” blue dome photo. We’d been waiting about 20 minutes when an Asian couple (about our age) turned up from nowhere and were trying to cut in front of us. I said, ‘there’s a line’. They kept saying they didn’t want photo, just going through’. I didn’t believe them because they were standing there talking amongst themselves for a few minutes before this, like they were hatching a plan. We all kept insisting they line up like everyone else. We all eventually caved and let them through. You can imagine our surprise when about 10 minutes later we got to the ‘spot’ and there they were, standing there looking around and taking photos!! There was no access to anywhere from there. I was livid! 🤬 I said, “Oh, why are you here? You said you were going through? So go through. It looks like you’re taking photos to me, no? So you lied just to push in?? That’s so rude! You are very rude people!!We’ve all been standing in the rain for half an hour and you just come along, and push past everyone?!” The hide of them. It wouldn’t have bothered me as much if we weren’t wet and cold and been waiting so long already. Anyway, we got our photos and kept walking along the top enjoying the view. There’s an old castle ruin, some old windmills, lots of accommodation, bars, restaurants and shops. It was time to get on the bus to the next stop, Fira. This is where we had lunch and a Greek experience with dancing and plate breaking. It actually felt amazing. 😱 Maybe I was getting my earlier frustrations out? 😂😂 We were up at the highest point in Oia, and blanketed in by fog. We couldn’t see a thing from the restaurant windows. We then headed to the area where the cable cars take you down to the port. Luckily there wasn’t a line up and we got straight on. I spotted some donkeys on our way down and wanted to see them. Peter lined up for the tender while I patted, kissed and snuggled ALL the donkeys 🫏 until it was time to leave. It was great to get back, get our damp clothes off, and have a long hot shower. 🚿 😁Læs mere
