• Positano, Italy: Steps and More Steps

    April 6, 2022 in Italy ⋅ ⛅ 11 °C

When we booked this lovely villa, we had no idea what it took to get to enjoy this beautiful view. To put it bluntly, an ascension of 60 steps is required to reach our little piece of paradise. Going down- no problem. Going up- bring the oxygen tank.. 🤣
All said, we are burning calories and it is worth it.
Positano is simple, unbothered, gracious and beautiful. Highlights: 400 steps down to the market area. Alluring public art. Galleries. Shops and Chez Black, our new favorite restaurant. A public bus ride to get back. We are struck by the lovely people who just take care of each other with trust and good nature. The local family owned grocery market that delivered our groceries without receiving a dime until we made our way down the hill a day later. The driver who picked us up in Naples and stopped us in Sorrento to have lunch prepared by a family friend who had been preparing our food all day. The 78 year old father of the driver who came down to the restaurant to meet us. The owner of our villa who bought a new American coffee maker for us. The bus driver who, when we were lost and unable to articulate where we live, stopped to ask a friend to help. The friend called our landlord, who gave explicit directions that the bus driver followed to get us home safely. So many lessons for us. Humility and grace being the greatest of them.
