    19 juillet 2023, Australie ⋅ 🌬 25 °C

Well today sees us traveling along the longest straight stretch of road in Australia whilst having to keep an eye out for a variety of wild animals 🙄😳. We drove through Balladonia, Caiguna, Cocklebiddy and Madura. We crossed a time zone and then camped up at Emu Hill Road side camp 100 km west of the border to SA.

It looks like the kiddies are settling into the traveling life 😴🙃.

  • Time Warp & Camp fire

    21 juillet 2023, Australie ⋅ ☁️ 13 °C

Today saw us leave Kidnippy Rest Area heading east towards Ceduna and Port Augusta. Drove through an area that was just like the wheat belt and is probably SA version. And it has its own farmers monument.

Tonight we are camped at Kooma View Farmhouse where you can wander through the old house that looks and feels like nonna got up and just left. It is also our first camp fire of the trip. 🔥

    Tomorrow is Port Augusta 🙃

  • Russian Spy's in Coober Pedy

    26 juillet 2023, Australie ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

Let’s go for a drive around Coober Pedy and check out the scenery.

We headed out to the Kanku Breakaways Conservation Park where we saw the Dog Fence that crosses over 3 states to help keep the dingoes out of the pastoral lands. We also saw some very different and beautiful scenery.

Had a wander through the old cemetery and who knew - not only is Coober Pedy home of the Opal but Russian Spy’s 🤣.

Dinner was a large pizza that served us well for the next few days......

  • Alice to a Gravel Pit 😳

    30 juillet 2023, Australie ⋅ ⛅ 25 °C

We left the luxury of Discovery Holiday Park Alice Springs in a cloud of mist.

Traveling north along the Stuart Highway we crossed the Tropic of Capricorn and lunch at Ti Tree. Drove past Barrow Creek and had a quick stop at Wauchope (a purpose built oasis in the middle of nowhere). Also the most expensive fuel so far at $2.45 ⛽️

Drove past Alleron the large man on the hill 😳

Along the way I did a bit of cloud picture deciphering - let’s see if you see what I see 🤣 remember I have been driving through outback Australia for the last 2 weeks 🙄😖 (shark and seal). 🤔

We had a look at Karlu Karlu (Devils Marbles) and then onto our gravel pit stop for the night.

    3 août 2023, Australie

Today we head East as we make our way to Cooktown.

We had a drive through Mary Kathleen Town a now deserted townsite that was once a bustling town that housed workers for the nearby uranium mine. Now just a bunch of concrete pads.

Thought we would pay a visit to the Burke & Wills memorial only to discover someone had pinched the plaque 😳😔

Checked out Chinaman Creek Dam and painted silo at Cloncurry before turning north. A quick stop at Quamby for lunch and onto tonight’s watering hole on the banks of the Flinders River.

  • On the way to Ravenshoe

    5 août 2023, Australie ⋅ ⛅ 18 °C

After a relaxing dip in a private hot spring this morning we head off.

We end up at Undarra Lava Tunnels however there was no available tours until well into next week 😖. So instead of going underground we went high above ground and hiked around the rim of Kalkani Volcano Crater.

Our final destination for today is Ravenshoe - the highest town in Qld at a quaint train caravan park. Dinner was a nice pub meal at the Ravenshoe Hotel, the highest hotel in Qld of course.
