  • Maroochydore Beach

    Today was a bit of an up and down day.

    Feeling like crap - aching all over, hacking cough and sore throat.
    It started with a walk along Maroochydore beach and a Frank Magical Mystery Tour as we took a drive around to have a look.

    Then a casual afternoon visiting with Bron who we haven’t seen in 15 years.

    Then we were caravan bound as we sat through a thunder storm.

  • Caloundra

    Fresh air and vitamin D was the idea to help ease the aches, pains and everything. So, we headed down to Caloundra and a relaxing walk along the coastline and a coffee. Managed to get a warning from the lifeguard as we were walking 🐶🐶 along the beach - apparently a no no. 🙄

    The afternoon spent at Sunshine Plaza for a spot of retail therapy

    Dinner was pizza from the Maroochydore Surf Club. Very nice - both surf club and pizza

    A wander through Byron Bay and the obligatory coffee and hot chocolate was the order of the morning. A trip up to the lighthouse for a wanderful view.

    This afternoon was spent driving out to Nimbin, a place where you can get high walking down the street 🤪😝

    The drive took us through some beautiful scenery, Lismore and back home.

    After jacking the caravan up to a precarious angle to hitch her, we left Byron Bay and headed for Queensland and their wine region.

    We went up hills, down hills, round many bends. Lunch was in Tabulum 🤔

    We then entered Queensland, the Great Dividing Range and wine country, before plonking ourselves in Stanthorpe.

  • Wine tasting

    We did as is now custom a walk through town, grabbed lunch and then headed out for a bit of wine tasting.

    Soon learnt that even though brochures etc say they are open a few of them weren’t 😔. So first up was Jester Hill, nice wines although our host was quite the opposite to a jester 😝. Next came Ridgemill Estate, some lovely wines there and a couple of more bottles bought. 🍷

    Then it was onto the local vet as Roxy took a turn 🐶😔

    Roxy had a sleepover at the vet and will be in for the rest of the day trying to get her hydrated and eating.

    Nature called so the intrepid trio set off and hiked to Sentimental Rocks and Quart Port Creek and Red Bridge.Read more

    After a stressful morning at the vet with Roxy we brought her home to continue our travels.

    We left Stanthorpe and headed west border hopping into NSW and lunch in Texas. Travelled through Yetman, Boggabilla and hopped backed into Qld and Goondiwindi. After a small walk and breather we headed to our free camp for the night in Bungunya.Read more

  • Lightning Ridge

    Today we set our compass for Lightning Ridge. Along the way we passed Nindigully Pub, the oldest licensed operating pub in Australia (since 1864). We passed Thallons painted silos and stopped in Dirranbandi for lunch at a popular bakery (let me tell you it’s not popular with us 😖). Then a couple of Km before the border back into NSW we stopped at the Hebel pub, infamous for being a watering hole of the Kelly Gang and being a Cobb & Co Staging Post. Crossing the border saw us head to Lightning Ridge for a couple of days.Read more

  • Chambers of the Black Hand

    On our adventures this morning we dropped into the Chambers of the Black Hand Opal Mine. Miner Ron Canlin bought the Opal mine but found not many opals, so through boredom whilst waiting for a group of tourists he carved a sculpture into the sandstone walls. What happens after that has to be seen. He has carved hundred of sculptures into the walls creating a number of chambers for tourists like us to visit. He is self taught !!Read more

  • Back of Bourke

    Left Lightning Ridge and headed for Bourke. Checked in to a cute caravan park (Mitchell Caravan Park) and headed off to the ℹ️ for a check on things to do. Had a drive around the Maritime Trail where you read about Bourke’s maritime history. Had a look at the North Bourke Bridge - the oldest movable span bridge in NSW which served for 114 years before being replaced in 1997.

    It’s official I can now say I have been beyond the black stump and now the back of Bourke.

    Broken Hill - Australias only Heritage Listed City. This morning was a Heritage Walk around the city. It is rich in the mining history of Australia and the birth place of BHP (Broken Hill Proprietary) in 1883. It is also the birthplace of the union movements in Australia. Rich in history.Read more

    After lunch saw us take in the Pro Hart Gallery. Broken Hill is the birthplace and home to Pro Hart. He has some amazing art work and Rolls Royce collection. As well as art work he has a sculpture collection. Well worth the visit.

  • Mad Max 2 Museum

    Busy day - took a drive out to Silverton to check out the Mad Max 2 Museum. Broken Hill is where it was filmed and there is a museum to this out in the middle of nowhere with a ton of photos, costumes, scripts and cars and stuff. Then a drive out to Mundi Mundi to see the the Mad Max landscape.Read more

  • Miners Memorial

    Last on today’s itinerary is the Miners Memorial overlooking Broken Hill. This was built top of the talings left over from mining. It houses some old equipment and a structure that pays homepage to all miners that have died since BHP started in 1883 - just over 800 to date. The majority were in the early years when OSH was not high on the agenda, some were as young as 14 😔. It also has a great lookout over the city.Read more

    A trip to Silver City Gallery to view the largest painting - 100 m long and 12m high. It goes around a viewing platform in the gallery and is amazing It depicts Broken Hill’s surrounding landscape and took 2 years to complete. We then left Broken Hill and headed for Mildura stopping at a lake for a scenic lunch before crossing into Victoria.Read more
