Welcome to Langkawi! Langkawi is an archipelago made up of 99 islands on the west coast of Malaysia. Surrounded by the Andaman Sea, the main island offers a mixture of picturesque paddy fields, jungle-clad hills, and tranquil waterfalls. The expansive shoreline is fringed by powder-fine sand and swaying coconut trees.
Randy and Vicki from South Dakota joined us today for touring the island by taxi.
Our guide Sahair could hardly speak English but he tried really hard to give us a good tour. We went to the cable car that took us to top of Matchincang Mountain. There were some really good views.
We next stopped at a beach as we were going to have a beer. But… it is Ramadan so fasting is in effect. No beer, limited restaurants open and limited shopping.
Diana did get to hear the call for prayer and tried to record it but that didn’t work.
We then asked to go to Eagle Landing. It is huge and very cool to see.
We were extremely hot by then and asked to go back to the port.
The guys went directly to the ship and Vicki and I went to do a little shopping. Nothing struck our fancy so we also returned to the ship for an icy margarita. Yum!
The four of us had dinner in the dining room and we then went to the Star theatre to hear Joe, one of the Viking singers in a solo performance.
A beautiful sunset as we sail away from Langkawi.
