    Snorkeling before diving

    DAY 3: Today we will have our first diving session. They call it "le baptême" = "the baptism"

    First diving: preparation

    The "baptême" starts and each of us went one after the other one. Jeff had to be with us the whole time. But here the videos/pictures of the preparation we needed and the jump into the water. As a good reporter, I am the one that has almost no video here. Thank you Thomas ... 😒

    Notice the video of Mathijs mounted from the video from the boat switching to the goPro video of his fall in the water. If I fail in science, I have a bright future as video editor.

    These pictures of the post are also in the video. But you see here Jeff explaining to me how we should read the pressure of the airbottle on the gauge, the conventional signs and how the dive is structured.
    First two three minutes we have to get used to the breathing into that tube. Then slowly he brings us -2m and stabilized our jacket so we can float in balance underwater. Then when all is fine from our side 👌🏼 this is the gesture we need to use. Ready to go then down, to -4m or even -8m... Depending on how stable we are.

    ZEUDI: FIRST DIVE

    I was recorded from the surface with our goPro. But Jeff also recorded me underwater with his goPro! He said I was autonomous and stable enough to leave me float on my own and take the footage. Cool :-) so the second video is full of great footage from Jeff where I swim among fishes ... I chase BARRACUDAS 🤨 without knowing that they were barracudas 🤔 and photobomb the turtles.. you see also photos in this footprint, while I edited and stitched our and Jeff's videos each in one video (this app only accepts two videos per footprint), sometimes increasing playback speed to 2x to stay within the two-minute limit . Hope it's fine anyway :-)

    GoPro was dead while Thomas was diving. But there is cool footage of next dive of Thomas so... Just some patience :-)    Lue lisää

    After diving: toe signature + yoga vibes

    Hihihihi special places deserve toe signature. After the dive, my toes needed anyway some YOGA 😊 and I tried some handstands on the beach. Thomas' ability to catch the millisecond I was up vertical is unprecedented 🤣🤣🤣
    Evening atmosphere on the island was peculiar: calm, soothing, in a blue shade and the very gentle sound of the sea releasing every single tension in your muscles and brain..    Lue lisää

    On our way to Piaynemo dolphins started appearing and it looks like the enjoy using the boat stream of water and jump in it!!!!
    What a moment!!! There were so many and it lasted for around 10 minutes.... I decided to try to keep the goPro in the water fearing to lose it from my hand and that the water pressure would make it hard to see but.... What a shot instead !!! I loved them!!! Such a good time!!!! And then... In the other video Vangellis, one of our friends there, pretended to ride a horse given all the bumps we were having with the boat because of the waves...     TO PIAYNEMO: 1st snorkeling place

    On our way to Piaynemo, THE view of Raja Ampat, we stopped in two places for snorkeling. The first one looked like a turtle view form the side ! So I will call it the Turtle Island :-) it was very small and you could swim all around ... The turtle had a fluff on the head (a lone tree) ahahha and the waters were extremely deep on the side (see photos with sun rays going through the water)Lue lisää

    Nice to see the name through the rocks when arriving with the boat... The way up to the peak for this first hike was pretty comfortable. Trees were in the middle of the staircase and I think that is beautiful to see. Then the view... I understand why this is THE Raja Ampat view... Look at that !!

    PIAYNEMO: second hike

    Also here what a view! The hike was much more difficult though, but shorter. I went up to the real tip. The first video is from the highest point of the rocks, the second video was from where you see the people in the first video. The sea formed a star shape between the rocky peaks, and colours here were extremely beautiful. In the video you will see Jeff and Thomas.. and me 😂😂 you can see I was sweating from every centimeter of my body 😱😱😱Lue lisää

    PIAYNEMO: late lunch and splashes

    It rained cats and dogs while we were having lunch on Piaynemo after our second hike. But it was weird because the rain was warm, and we were anyway very wet from the hike. Then after lunch Jeff started being crazy and we followed him so we jumped into the water!!! And I recorded how that rock on the back only stands on a small piece of rock underneath the water!Lue lisää

    Day in Merpati

    After the excursion to Piaynemo, we relax in our own island. Big headache in the morning, probably due to both the sun and the exaggerated bumping of the boat on the waves on the way back.     Time-lapse recorded with the GoPro. At the end of the video, I see an eel which apparently pretends to be a sea snake to scare predators. If you remember, in our first snorkeling ever in Komodo, we actually saw a sea snake, who apparently is very poisonous even though not dangerous (unless you try to grab it). In this way the eel protects itself and can live a longer life :-) the other pictures are of the courtesy of Katrin, our German pal on the island ... A sting ray, a jellyfish, a weird hermit and a cute bird!Lue lisää

    Today, excursion to the waterfalls of Batanta. They are situated on the island we could see far in front of our bungalow. Before starting the hike, we sailed through the mangroves. They had very tall trees and the sound of the birds was mystic. Deep into the mangroves the small muddy path started.Lue lisää

    BATANTA WATERFALLS: the big one

    The hike to the big waterfall was quite difficult. Mud would get until above the ankles, we walked through the river current, climbed rocks... we weren't expecting that! But the big waterfall was something overwhelming to see, and made all the effort worth it!!!! Under the rocks there were small oases with trees and vegetation, I never saw something like that! It looked like the planet of Avatar! (What was the name? )
    The water temperature was sensibly colder than the sea water, so we swam in those waters and went into that small grotto underneath. Splashes were mostly okay but one of them was too powerful to put your body underneath. Great experience ❤️❤️❤️ at the end of the video, enjoy my toe signature 🤣🤣🤣 notice how small are people from the cave, and get an idea on how big the waterfall was :-)    Lue lisää

    BATANTA: restoring lunch

    After the heavy hike, a restoring lunch on a deserted beach. There was an abandoned bungalow there, and no form of human life. Silence was only broken by the waves and some birds. After this we went snorkeling, but unfortunately "someone" forgot the GoPro so... no footage for that...Lue lisää

    Snorkeling in Cape Kri

    Before diving again with Jeff, we have our beautiful snorkeling session in Cape Kri again. There is no place here where it isn't worth snorkeling again and again!!! And while my snorkeling technique improves, my footages are more colourful and closer to the target. Corals viewed from closeby are so much more amazing!
    Don't miss the black tip sharks at the end of the second video, and the huge school of fishes that surrounded me at a certain point .. that was almost scarier than the sharks!    Lue lisää

    Tongue of sand in the middle of the sea

    In the middle of the sea, after the first snorkeling session in Cape Kri, we ended up in this small piece of paradise. I can't call it anything else. A tongue of sand in the middle of nowhere. Despite the clouds, it was a big touch to the heart and the eyes.Lue lisää
