    Propeller plane to Ende

    Our time in Labuan Bajo is over... Time for a new adventure. With our super shuttle from the Hotel we go to the airport and we have to take our propeller plane to Ende (first time on a propeller plane for me!!!, look at first video for flight highlights)...
    The Ende airport is sooo small that you can reach the exit in only ten steps ! 😮 (Second video)
    Someone told me Maumere airport (next one) is even smaller... But how can it be smaller is already this one had only one lane? We will see....    Meer informatie

    Ride from Ende to Moni with Robert

    Robert, our personal driver for the whole stay, picked us up from the airport and drove us for almost two hours to our stay in Moni, at the feet of the volcano Kelimutu. We had a stop in a café with an awesome view on the rice fields (in the video there is the drive, the panorama video, and the video of the arrival). We made acquaintance with these weird buses were people actually also stay on the roof if the seats are all taken 🤣🤣🤣. At the end of the video, i show the place where we are staying and the view from the balcony.Meer informatie

    Milky way: First night in Moni

    Experimenting with my phone: I wanted to try to capture the milky way. Here stars are so visible that when you look up you feel overwhelmed 😌 The milky way is always visible. The first night in Indonesia I though that they were clouds.. but every night those clouds were always in the same position in the sky... That was too strong of a coincidence 🤣🤣🤣

    Here, I had to expose the camera of the phone for 30 seconds, let it down on the ground on the dark street with screen facing down, so I couldn't check where I was pointing (ouch), and how no one would drive there in those 30s. Mission almost impossible but.... I made it!!!
    And now I have a picture of the burning milky way taken with my phone and it looks so professional!!!!!    Meer informatie

    With our driver Robert, we left at 4:40am to go to the Kelimutu volcano peak. It was extremely dark, and it seemed like Robert had a night view because he took every turn with a lot of self confidence ... I was bracing myself 😱😱😱

    Kelimutu sunrise Time Lapse

    This is a time lapse of the sunrise (before 6:00am 😱) on the lakes of Kelimutu, a still active volcano in the heart of Flores. Notice after half the video how light takes over and you can see the lakes much better. Clouds were also moving disappearing an reappearing so fast that the time laps is hypnotic ...     Here some picture of the peak of the volcano with its three lakes. Also two videos one showing the panorama at 360° and the other one my toe signature video 🤣 there were monkeys with baby monkeys there 😍 and our guide thought he was a photographer 🤣

    In these videos a great angle view of the lakes ... Can you see the black lake? It is far from the two blue lakes. It seems like a hole in the heart of the volcano... And then suddenly, monkeys came .. many of them!!! I couldn't not take a video! So cute! And they were on the side of the black lake ;-) (small tip!)...     Kelimutu blue lake close up

    Last but not least this spectacular blue lake, with characteristic stairs opening up to a breathtaking view. The water seems weird in the crater, waver are extremely small, and also there seems to be vortexes... Can you find them? :-) I helped out with a zoomed photo...Meer informatie

    Volcanic hotspring: public bath? 😮

    While Thomas was with Mathijs who was not feeling very well, I went with Robert to this hotspring not far from the lodge. I wasn't expecting this... A source of hot water coming from the side of volcano Kelimutu which is used as a sort of public bath immersed in the nature. Robert our driver profited to wash himself in here 🤔 water was warm and divided into two big tubs, apparently one for women and kids and one for men (see video). I also made two small friends: Flora and Leila 😍😍😍
    The atmosphere was very relaxing, scenery was calming with the noise of the river on the bottom... But I wouldn't myself have a bath in there ...    Meer informatie

    Yes, in this tiny village, a waterfall is hidden.
    You could walk to the other side to go even closer (scary though). So peaceful there, it felt like being in a real jungle !

    People here in Moni, and in general in the whole Indonesia, are so cheerful. They love interacting with you, helping you if you need, and you see they don't do it for money. In this picture, a bunch of boys in a side street of Moni. We were initially a bit scared to pass there because it was far from the main Street, but we did it. On our way over and back they cheered us so much that I wanted to take a selfie with them. Each one of them didn't miss the chance to transmit their spirit through this picture.     Goodbye Moni

    This morning we leave Moni. What an experience here. But one full day was more than enough. The way of living here is so basic. People have almost nothing and still always a smile on their face. We met Jeni, the host of a Lodge in the village. She cooked an awesome dinner to the three of us and gave us some WiFi on her hotspot. How incredible is that? I took a nice picture with my Indonesian clothes on the terrace of our lodge, and it looked like a roster was happy about it and informed all the others 🤣🤣🤣 (see video, the roster went up a tree and started singing).
    A last picture... Just to show how here everyone uses a scooter. They use it sometimes with three people... Four... The max we saw was FIVE: dad, mommy and three tiny kids 🤔🤔🤣🤣    Meer informatie

    Next stop: koka beach

    On our way to Maumere (from where we will fly to Makassar, the first part of an almost tree day long trip towards Tabari Dive, in Raja Ampat) we stopped for around two hours in Koka Beach. What was that???? Gigantic waves breaking on the shore, and a shore tongue between two bays where I tried to do my handstand. Extremely difficult on dry fine sand!!! But I made it, on the tongue between the bays.
    The configuration of the bay was such that from the open sea the waves would suddenly find almost a wall of sand, therefore they would become very tall and violent on shore. This is not the post for it, but we recorded many videos of us playing with the waves! Don't miss the next post !
    Here, there are two videos with landscape and portrait mode of the surroundings. This will give a pretty good idea on how this corner of paradise looks like ❤️ notice that we were almost ALONE... This never happens on the beaches of whole Europe...    Meer informatie

    Arfan saves us !

    With the illusion to find something at walking distance from here, we walked more than a kilometer in the dark on the interurban street... Risked our lives.. until we found a guy by chance at a gas station. I stopped to take a picture of all those scooters in line to get gas !!!! And he was there, we started chatting... He is a driver so we asked him to bring us to Maumere to eat dinner... Nice!!! He brought us to a very peculiar place. A sort of covered open space, where tiny 2x2m2 restaurants would prepare all sorts of Indonesian food for you and you would eat it in the middle of the space on the shared tables.
