Torres Straight Islands

We took a day trip to Thursday Island. We got off the ferry at a quiet, pretty beachfront area. We spent the first 1 1/2 hours exploring the main township and beachfront. We then had morning tea whist waiting for our Island tour to start.
Lots of TI history on the tour and a little about culture. Lunch at the Top Pub the most northern Australian Pub. TI has 4 pubs and around 10 churches for a population of around 3000 people. Lots of government workers on Island as well is the indigenous locals. Around 200 islands in the Torres Straight. these islands are or rather were part of the great divide mountain range.Read more
