    Arrival in Hobart

    Sep 23–26 in Australia ⋅ 🌬 17 °C

Dad, mum, Kate and I arrived in Hobart late afternoon and caught an Uber to the apartment. Gibson's Mill apartment was fantastic and the location only a block from the waterfront and a couple of minutes walk to Salamanca Place. The rooms were big, Kate and I had the top floor and mum and dad the lower level. After settling in we discovered a great pub next door, The Telegraph Hotel. A couple of settling drinks then mum Kate and I went to buy take away fish and chips. A relaxing evening getting ready for some activities the next day.Read more

Kate and I went for a morning walk and coffee whilst mum and dad recovered from the big day of travel. We had a walk around Salamanca and over the hill to Battery point. Such a Beautiful place. We then headed out to the Cascades Women's factory for a tour. It was very interesting and they have done an excellent job to create the image of life in the prison considering there are almost no buildings left on the site. The conditions for the women were appalling and the prison sentences were totally out of scale for many of the crimes.
Lunch today was an exceptional French lentil soup in a small bakery/cafe.
After a rest we went for a short walk to Franklin wharf.
Josephine and Mark came to the apartment and we had drinks at our local again before all going out to dinner in Salamanca at the Ball and Chain grill. Delicious streaks and a sampling of desert enjoyed. We had a fun night catching up.
