• DAY 37 leaving the Pilbara

    July 1, 2024 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 26 °C

Today turned into a very long day driving. Our plan was to drive to Mill Stream National Park, have a swim and find somewhere to camp. not what happened. Heavy rains from the week before meant we had to go the long way around. The long way around is the Rio Tinto railway maintenance road. this involved Bob and Brett doing an induction in Tom price to obtain a permit to drive on it. The Pilbara has over 1400km of private rail tracks that connect the mines to the ports. It was an interesting drive passing many trains all approximately 2kms long. Unfortunately, we were unable to get a camp anywhere near Millstream and ended up driving all the way to Karratha.
Luckily, we found a great brewery to help ease the tension of a screwed-up day.
