    A date with Frida Kahlo

    May 27–28, 2025 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 14 °C

We departed Point Lonsdale around 10am this morning. After a short lunch stop in Daylesford, where we had to dodge the rain, we continued our journey to Bendigo.
The highlight of our afternoon was visiting the Frida Kahlo exhibition at the Bendigo Art Gallery. The exhibition featured a fascinating collection of her personal items, including makeup and clothing. Although there were only two of her paintings on display, it was still a captivating experience. I particularly enjoyed learning about her nickname for the USA - "Gringolandia."

  • Bendigo to Sydney

    May 29, 2025 in Australia ⋅ ☁️ 17 °C

We left Bendigo early and made our way across to the Hume hwy to stay overnight at Jugiong, just before Yass. It's a great little place for an overnighter with delicious meals at the Sir George Hotel and breakfast from the famous Long Track Pantry. Surprisingly our neighbours from Pt Lonsdale were also camping here for the night.
Back on the Hume to the M7 and after about 4 hours driving we arrived at Lane Cove National Park to set up for a couple of days. Dinner was a very Special Ramen made from scratch by Jacob and it was delicious.

Continuing the celebrations into the evening with dinner at Kyiv Social, which is a social enterprise supporting Ukrainian refugees through training and employment., the food was delicious especially the goulash!
Saturday and we were on the road again travelling the good old A1 to Nambucca Heads for a couple of nights.

  • Byron Bay

    Jun 2–7, 2025 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 20 °C

Great camp site right on the beach at Byron Bay First Sun Caravan Park. Not the sunny paradise we were hoping for think storms, rai, hail, and electric blankets! Not sure how the locals were fairing but we were cold. Managed never the less to spend the week exploring the local regional towns of Brunswick Heads and Bungalow, reading and relaxing.Read more

We have just enjoyed 3 nights on the Gold Coast catching up with family and friends. Browsed around the Cooly Rocks On ( show and shine in Coolangatta) . A day in Brisbane to check out all the new caravans at the caravan supershow....none matched up to beat our old girl. We then had dinner on south bank, all travelling on public transport for 50cents per ride! Winner!Read more

  • Noosa River Camp

    Jun 9–13, 2025 in Australia ⋅ ☁️ 20 °C

Just wanted to share a little update from our lazy days at Noosa. It's been absolutely delightful with morning swims and relaxing sunset drinks, and not much happening in between.
I caught up with Ceri, a swimming mate from Bicheno, and we had quite an adventure swimming with a hammerhead shark!
We also visited our friends Di and Billy, who managed to escape Victoria and have set up a new house and life on the Sunshine Coast. It's wonderful to see them settling in and enjoying their new surroundings.

  • North we go.

    June 14, 2025 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 18 °C

Leaving Noosa is always a bit sad. Securing a spot at Noosa River Park feels like hitting the jackpot, as sites are allocated based on the triple D system: someone has to DIE, get DIVORCED, or simply decide they DON'T want to come anymore!

Our next destination was the quaint town of 1770 and Agnes Water, where we indulged in more swimming, breathtaking sunsets, and delightful coffee. We had the pleasure of catching up with Richard and Teena from Point Lonsdale and uncovered the history behind the town's name. The town of 1770 is named after the year when James Cook made his second landing in Australia on the shores of what is now known as Seventeen Seventy.

On the road again for a couple of nights in Tannum Sands with our old mate Geoffrey and partner Robyn. They were great hosts, Geoff cooked as one of his world famous roast dinners and we played 500 until way passed our bed time. They showed us around the Gladstone area by foot, bike and car.

Next we had a over night stop at a Beach just south of Mackay . Bob thought he would try his luck fishing after seeing a 12 year old pull in a huge flathead.... we had sausages for dinner.

Now we are at Hydaway Bay just above the Whitsundays. This is as far North as we are going. Not much happening here, just the usual sunsets, swimming and coffee.

  • Whitsundays wandering

    Jun 28–Jul 4, 2025 in Australia ⋅ 🌬 22 °C

We had an absolutely wonderful week sailing through the Whitsunday Islands with Emily, Ben, Jacob, Sophie, Brett, and Kathy. Our luxurious catamaran, Toy Bouy, was expertly skippered by Brett, who not only navigated the boat through various conditions with great skill but also fillet and cooked our fish to perfection. More than once I heard someone say " I'm glad Brett is here". We experienced everything that makes this place truly special. A fun-filled day at Whitehaven Beach, where we enjoyed a game of finska, a delicious lunch, swimming and soaking up some very welcome sunshine. We found lots of snorkelling spots where we encountered turtles, fish, and some stunning coral formations. We hiked up hilltops to appreciate the breathtaking waterways and we were treated to spectacular sunsets and sunrises. One of the most magical moments was witnessing bioluminescence under a sky filled with sparkling stars on the darkest of nights.
To commemorate our beloved son Andrew, on what would have been his 30th birthday, we indulged in a few cocktails and a seafood feast on Hamilton Island. Brokenhearted, we felt grateful for the precious time spent with family, cherishing each moment and appreciating the beauty around us.
