  • The Tower of London is more than a tower

    July 20, 2023 in England ⋅ ⛅ 63 °F

London tower has been a fortress, castle, and prison over the years. Built on the Roman settlement of Londinium, the Normans created a fortress that was continually added onto and improved. My favorite part was the medieval section from the 1200s but the Crown Jewels are incredible as well. Mandy's always a fan of the torture room :)Read more

  • Tea Time!

    July 20, 2023 in England ⋅ ☁️ 73 °F

We decided to do a formal British afternoon tea and it was an interesting experience that we really enjoyed. It was not cheap but we were very well taken care. Also found out I like tea with cream in it. Go Dairy!Read more

    July 20, 2023 in England ⋅ ☁️ 70 °F

If you haven't listened to Les Mis please check it out. Been a fan of it for over 30 years now.... This production was awesome. Longest running musical on the west end and 2nd longest in the world for a reason.Read more

  • Westminster Abbey, lots of dead people

    July 21, 2023 in England ⋅ ☁️ 61 °F

This is a true Gothic church. Currently packed full of vaults and memorials of people that did significant things in the eyes of the monarchs over the years. They do still hold services here but also have the remains of Stephen Hawking and Charles Darwin on display. Lots of dead Kings and Queens there as well.Read more

  • Camden Market

    July 21, 2023 in England ⋅ ☁️ 68 °F

Took the tube out to Camden to check out the market. Very neat area where they took shopping containers and turned them into shops and eateries. Also got a short river boat ride in to rest our feet which are much needed. I wish I would have taken pictures of the food but we were pretty hungry at this point and that didn't happen :)Read more

  • British Museum brief visit and Hamilton

    July 21, 2023 in England ⋅ ☁️ 68 °F

Made a quick stop at the British Museum to check it out. It's free, which is really nice. So much information it is hard to take it all in for sure. Rosetta stone is larger than I expected. Made a last minute discussion to hit another musical that was very reasonably priced.....Hamilton! Kinda awkward to see it in London but at intermission a nice family of Brits turned to visit with us and apologized for what England did to the US. Was not at all expecting that to happen. We had a really nice talk and they loved the musical.Read more

  • All aboard!

    July 22, 2023 in England ⋅ ☁️ 63 °F

So today we got up at 7am, grabbed a local pastry, and took a rental van from our hotel in London down to the docks in Southampton. It was about a 2 hour drive. I got car sick riding backward in the van..... Boarding the ship was very easy and we were in our rooms by 1pm. It rained almost all day and was about 58 degrees. It gave up plenty of time to explore the ship and get a board game in. We headed out at 4:30pm and made it into the dining room for supper. Tomorrow we have a relaxing day at sea which our feet appreciate.Read more

  • Kristiansand

    July 24, 2023 in Norway ⋅ ☁️ 59 °F

First stop is finally here! Beautiful Kristiansand Norway. It's a city of about 15,000 and the 5th largest in Norway. We walked most of old Town and saw their fortress, marina, sand art, grocery store (for a pepsi), and church. The ladies shopped and in the afternoon we caught an organ recital in the church. I also took a solo hike up to the nature preserve over looking the city. Weather was amazing at about 68 and partly sunny.Read more

Happy Anniversary to us!!!! We stared the day early with a 5:45am view of Hamlet Castle on the Danish coast. We docked in Copenhagen around 7:30am and left at 8:45 for a bus, then a train, and then a canal boat. The canal system here is awesome and very clean. Public transport is also clean and efficient.Read more

  • Tivoli Gardens (inspiration for Disney)

    July 25, 2023 in Denmark ⋅ ☁️ 66 °F

Made a stop at Tivoli Park for the afternoon in Copenhagen. Very old (1843) version of Disneyland based on Hans Christianson Andersen's fairy tales. He is from here and has multiple statuses. The little mermaid is by far the favorite with the tourists. Mandy wasn't feeling well this afternoon so we headed back to the ship around 5. We also found out that due to bad weather at sea, we would be staying in Copenhagen until 2pm on Wednesday and skipping the stop in Skagen due to the 40mph winds.Read more

  • Day 2 Copenhagen- Rosenborg Castle

    July 26, 2023 in Denmark ⋅ ⛅ 61 °F

Slept in until 830 and left the ship around 930 today. Weather is amazing again near 70F and sunny. Rosenborg Castle is Renaissance and has a beautiful garden along with a moat, which I love. We rode the hop on hop off bus until lunch and then back to the ship by 1:30. We cut it a little close but made it in time for Mandy to take a dance class on the Merengue. Next stop - Oslo Norway!Read more

After the fortress we rode the bus to downtown Oslo and walked around the Royal Palace of Oslo famous for its mature trees and gardens. After that, we walked to a cool digital viking museum (equipped with a VR viking experience). Didn't see Kirk there at all...... we also saw their city theater and opera house.Read more
