Up bright and early to pack and get to the airport. The journey to the airport was straightforward and took only 40 minutes (metro and bus) for the amazing value of €1.5. Everything was on time despite a strike by some of the airport staff, like everything on this trip

Final full day in Rome, off to see his holiness today

Fairly late start, need to be at the Vatican Museum at 10:30. The journey is only around 15-20 minutes on the metro

Went around the Vatican museum for around 4 hours. Some of the architecture and artefacts are amazing, but there is an awful lot of it.

At the end you get to see the the Sistine Chapple. The paintings are out of this world. The only disappointing aspect of the Sistine Chapple visit is that everyone is herded like sheep and the crowds are kept on moving

In the afternoon I moved onto St. Peter’s square and the basilica, the scale of them both is out of this world and are a spectacle not to be missed. The view is then surpassed by the view from the dome on the basilica. 515 steps to get to the top but is worth it

Got up early to go to the Roman fort as soon as it opens, wandered around for 2-3 hours before going to the market in Trastevere. The market was ok, but nothing special

In the afternoon I went to see the villa medicci

The weather was horrible up to lunchtime and then it cleared up and became quite a nice day

Colosseum

I thought today was going to be a wash out, but the weather overall was pretty good with the exception of a few showers. When it was rainning I decided to do a bit of church hopping, I am not religious but there does seem to be some serenity in the churches

Started the day off by walking around the Borghese gardens and villa for a couple of hours before wandering around the centre after lunch

Final morning in Salerno, woke up early to pack and ready for the train to Rome. As ever on this trip the train was on time and very comfortable.The train takes around. 2 hours

Towns and villages of Amalfi

Started the day off by walking from Salerno to Vietri Sul Mare. The views are amazing looking back at Salerno. The village of Vietri Sul Mare is known for its ceramics. After a brief look round I got the bus to the next village which is Cetara.

Cetara is made up of a few houses around a domed church. Very pretty fishing village known for its tuna fishing.

The weather is glorious so i decided to go to Amalfi by bus to relax on the beach for 2-3 hours

In the afternoon I travelled to the town of Maiori, it seemed to have more space than the town of Amalfi. The Main Street was a wide boulevard. The main reason to travel to Maori was to do the lemon trail. The lemon trail is a short hike to the next town/village of Minori, the trail goes high into the hills passing all the lemon groves.

At the end of 5he day I walked back to Maiori from Minori, a 10 minute walk via the road. From Maiori I got the ferry back to Salerno. The journey was excellent unlike the ferry ride I had a few days earlier

My last full day before travelling to Rome tomorrow morning. I have seen a lot in the Amalfi Coast, but there are still lots I want to see such as Sorrento and Capri amongst other places, I think that is a reason to look at coming back next year, probably having Salerno asa base againRead more

A little lie in before getting the train to Pompei. The service to Pompei is excellent, 2 euro and 40 minutes you are there.

The weather is a bit changeable between rain and lovely sunshine. That does not dampen the spirits or the splender of the ruins. I was amazed by the extent of the ruins. I was walking round for about 4 hours and I still did see everything. Could of wandered round of another 4 hours and I don’t think I would of seen everythingRead more

Footpath of the Gods

Up bright and early. Need to get the first bus at 6:30 to Amalfi and then change for the bus to Agerola (start of the walk)

The weather is perfect, the views on the walk are amazing.

The walk is very well signed by red dots on the ground. The walk is fairy easy, at stages there is a lot of rocks and it seems more like rock climbing than hiking. Finished the walk in around two hours and walked to a pretty little town called piano and grabbed some lunch before getting the bus to Positano

Positano is stunning. Relaxed on the beach for a couple hours before exploring the town

Decided to get the boat back. It started out as a really pleasant experience and then for the last 40 minutes the rain started. It was not fun, the rain driving down, wet and cold. Ready for a nice hot shower before going out for some dinnerRead more

Travelled from Naples to Salerno by train. A very easy and comfortable journey, took less than an hour door to door

Checked into my apartment right in the centre of Salerno. Got everything I need and even a lovely view; I’ll take a picture and add it tomorrow

Today was a very easy day just getting my bearings and walking along the promenade until fairly late. Nice to get out of the city and into a more relaxed atmosphere

Day started off a bit miserable, decided to go to the underground tour. You get shown all the Roman ruins underground and the world war 2 shelters. The tour was really good, a section of the tour you went through all the narrow tunnels with candles. The second bit of the tour was about the old roman theatre, not as good as the first section

The afternoon cleared up, it was gorgeous. Nice and sunny and around 22, took the opportunity to walk the hills around the city. ( a lot of steps) Great views from one of the castles, came down and walked along the seafront before going back to the accommodationRead more

Up bright and early (3:30) for the 4:30 train to Manchester. Flight on time and into Naples with no issues

Naplesuite is a little gem - http://www.naplesuite.com. when I arrived it is down some back street with a dodgy entrance, but once you get inside the rooms are perfect and a communal kitchen with the all basics is provided including some beers and wine
