So here is the process for crossing the border at Niagara Falls on Amtrak.

First the train stops at the American side. And we wait for a while.

Then we cross the river into Canada.

The border agents and Via Rail agents come on the train. Via Rail is the Canadian analog of Amtrak.

Then we all get off the train, with our luggage, and go into the customs shed to declare our stuff and get our passports examined.

Then we go into a waiting room until everyone is processed.

Then we get back on the EXACT SAME TRAIN. Except now all the conductors are Via Rail personnel and the signs in the cafe are all Via Rail and so is the stuff for sale.

Oh, and the wifi no longer works, but I do have working cell data.
