• Day 31 80 Mile Beach

    2021年6月27日, オーストラリア

Early start this morning for 470k drive to 80 Mile Beach. Encountered some very wide loads heading south where we had to pull off the road until they passed. Called into Port Hedland to fuel up and to check out the Esplanade Hotel. My Dad did some work up here in the late 30’s and mentioned drinking at the Esplanade Hotel. Next to the Fuel station was the Don Rhodes Mining Museum with some old locomotives and ore trucks. There was even a Valentine tank from
WWII converted to be a mining dozer. Very impressive little collection. The port of hedland was huge, I counted 5 of those massive ore buckets for loading ore carriers but probably a lot more. Another 100+ k to
80 mile beach caravan park. This park is huge and packed. Got an unpowered site which is ok as my lithium and solar working well. I think my boss in Canberra wound love this place. 80 miles of beach fishing. There are people here with quad bikes and trailers loaded up with fishing rods. Heaps of 4wd’s up and down the beach. Guess what ? NO BLOODY WIND. It was 27c when we arrived, it is now 6.15 pm and I am sitting outside in a tshirt having a beer.
They have a nice war memorial here at the park. As the beach is very shallow the tide goes out a very long way. Makes for some very impressive optical illusions with the clouds reflecting off water. This is probably the warmest night of the whole trip. Off to Broome tmw and currently it is 25c there.
