Transit in Dubai

It was pouring rain in Sydney when we took off. The flight to Dubai was long—14 hours—but comfortable. We were lucky to have three seats to ourselves, which gave us some extra space. No complaints about Emirates—great flight and service. Now we’re hanging around Dubai airport, waiting for our connection to Cairo.Okumaya devam et

Day 1 Cairo P1 Trip from airport

After landing, it took over two hours to get through passport control and customs. Then, we had a long wait for the bus. Once we were gathered with the Trip-Deal group, it took about an hour to reach the hotel. The drive was filled with endless apartments stretching as far as we could see, from high-end real estate to slum areas.

In Cairo’s slums, people live in tombs dating back to around 500 AD, with the poor converting these old cemeteries into housing.

The hotel feels a bit like a scene from Fawlty Towers—probably a three-star, but it will do.

Day 2 Cairo P1 Pyramids

We arrived at the Pyramids at 8 a.m., and it was already packed. It’s an incredible place. We decided to pay extra to go inside the middle tomb, which involved a tough climb through narrow, steep passages. At one point, it was so tight we had to go on hands and knees, squeezing past other people. Words can’t fully capture this place—it’s packed with history.

Day 2 Cairo P2 Memphis

About 45 minutes outside Cairo, we visited Memphis, Egypt’s original capital, and the Saqqara Pyramid. The history here is incredible, and the guides had so many stories to share—too much to cover in one go. On the way back to the hotel, we stopped by a carpet-weaving school. Watching the process, I understood why these carpets are so expensive. It takes years to master the craft, and the work is repetitive and challenging. The carpets, though, are truly impressive.
It was a full day, back to the hotel at 5.30pm, dinner then early night. Off to the museum day three

Gezgin I thought this was interesting. This is in the Egypt museum and apparently the last surviving stone in stone art work. If you look at the bottom left you will see a bloke with a Baboon on a lead also with another bloke behind him tied up. The bloke in the middle is a policeman and the monkey is like a German Shepard today. The bloke at the back is his prisoner probably a thief caught stealing at the marketd

Day 4 Luxor Karnak Temple P1

1.45am rise from bed, bus to airport at 3am, fight to Luxor 7am.
My legs have taken a hammering for the first two days. Feel like I have done 100 lunges. Can only get better. The airports here are interesting to say the least. Going through security you have a male and female line. As you walk through the scanners you are then patted down. Buses out to the plane and the old fashioned steps up to the plane. Flight to Luxor very short, about 45 mins.
Luxor is soo different to Cairo. Cairo is crowded, polluted, dirty, crazy, looks like Gaza Strip, whereas Luxor looks magnificent, clean , no pollution and impressive buildings

Just wow, this is what I have always wanted to see. Glad we got in early as it gets packed

Another temple. Could write heaps about it but would take too long and I have forgotten half of what we were told. The only annoying thing is bloody crowds, I knew it was busy but this is crazy. The guide advised it is still not back to pre Muslim Brotherhood revolution days where they had 9 million visitors a year
