  • El Penol

    January 24, 2019 in Colombia ⋅ ⛅ 24 °C

A trip to Guatapé would be complete without climbing up the 675 steps of the huge rock, El Peñol, and taking in the 365view of the reservoir that awaits. Different story’s existing why this stone is here, but at the end it’s because of the continental shift. All the surrounding water is artificial to produce energy for Medellin and other cities around.
The walk only takes 30 minutes and is completely worth the potential sore muscles that you may have afterwards.

  • Medellin / day 2 pt 2

    January 25, 2019 in Colombia ⋅ ⛅ 25 °C

On our tour we stopped to eat a handmade icecream from an old lady and of course empanadas!
Also communa 13 was helped by building the cable car but at the higher part they used staircases to give the people an easy acces to the city or next cable car station.
In between you sometimes find slides reminding the people to never grow up :)

At the end we got a little graffiti workshop and we all sprayed our personal sign on the wall.

    Impressive tour!

  • Medellin/ cable cars

    January 26, 2019 in Colombia ⋅ ⛅ 19 °C

The cable cars are a really nice way to see the city from above! Two lines are going really far up/ outside the city (a ride is about 20min) and you are in the green area where nothing reminds you on the busy city behind you!
From above all the houses looked even more not ready and you could spy into the normal life of Medellín.

  • Tayrona nationalpark

    January 27, 2019 in Colombia ⋅ ⛅ 27 °C

One of Colombia’s highlights is this nationalpark with beautiful beaches!
Unfortunately the parc is closed every year during February, what for me is the 1st not the 28th of the month before :)
But with a little bit organization I made it on the last day! You can stay overnight in the park on campsites or hammocks but his wasn’t possible for me anymore.
So I laced my shoes early in the morning to go on my first solo hike ever!
The first 2 hours my heart leapt into my throat, somewhere in the mountains/jungle of Colombia, alone! Every single sound scares me, I had to pass dogs and the way was really steep.
    Nonetheless I made it!
After the highest point you saw the ocean on the way down on a dried-out riverbed with big stones where you had to jump from one to the next.
I really enjoyed the hike by myself and was bugged by all the people when I finally arrived at the beach.
(At last Tayrona is really famous so many people visiting - There is another entrance where you only walk 2 hours to the beach what most of the people do)
I enjoyed time at the beach and made my way back to the other entrance.
20km and 10hours later i was back in the hostel, exhausted but proud of myself! 😊

  • Costeno beach

    January 29, 2019 in Colombia ⋅ ☀️ 27 °C

To let it all hang out I spent 3 nights at Costeno beach, a really natural beach, palm-lined, all hostels or cabanas are right at the beach, no hotels & supermarkets, the sound of the waves day & night, long strolls on the beach...
one of my favorit places on this trip! 🖤

  • Minca

    January 31, 2019 in Colombia ⋅ 🌧 14 °C

Minca is a small village in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, one of the highest coastal mountains.
From there you can start different hikes, I choose the way to Casa Elemento because this place is famous for the giant hammocks and a view over the jungle right up to the ocean!
On the way I met a another girl and so we hiked the steep way together and enjoyed a fresh beer in the hammock together.
Down we have chosen a different way through the jungle, a way I would never walk by my own :)
At the end we hiked 18 km, exhausted but happy I treaded myself with a good burger for dinner!

  • Valle del Cocora

    February 9, 2019 in Colombia ⋅ 🌧 17 °C

Famous for this area is a hike through the Cocora Valley with the wax palms over 60m high. The hike (in total 16km) has two parts, rainforest and valley, and you should decide based on the weather which way first.
Often the valley gets really cloudy in the afternoon, this is why I started with the palms.
It was beautiful but also exhausting, the diversity of the nature and the views making this hike special.

  • Bogota

    February 13, 2019 in Colombia ⋅ ☀️ 19 °C

Final stop in Colombia is Bogota!
I met again two girls I knew from casa en el agua and spend one day with them.
Bogota is huge, over 7mill. people living there and the altitude of the city is 2600m.
We visited the Montserrat, based on 3200m overlocking the city.
On the opposite side you can see the green mountains. We spend the whole afternoon there, escaping the busy city life and breath in fresh air.

  • Bogota / day 2

    February 14, 2019 in Colombia ⋅ 🌧 19 °C

To be honest, i didn’t feel so comfortable in Bogota, the city is not the safest and everyone is warning you, additionally I had struggle with my stomach.
This is why I didn’t explore so much. I only went to the museo del Botero, one of the most important artist of Colombia, famous for paintings and sculptures of well proportioned persons. Even Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa got some more curves.Read more
