• Denham Fishing with Pete

    May 14, 2021 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 28 °C

The day started early, 7 am at the ramp. The wind was light so we headed to the weed beds and jigged up some fresh squid. After an hour or so we had seven or eight squid but by then the wind had increased. We started to head out for a fish but with the wind blowing we couldn’t go far. All we were catching was shit fish and the wind was howling, Pete pleaded to head for the shallows to chase small Whiting, but against his wishes we headed out into the rough.
The water was rough with big boat wash a worry, but after a short drift we found some ground and anchored. The wind died and we started to catch plenty of fish with big Bates attracting the bigger blue line Emperor aka Black snapper. We bagged out on black snapper. Pete caught his first shark and also seen his first sea snake which was about 5 foot long and 50mm thick, we were all nervous as the curious snake looked like it was trying to get in the boat. With no wind and full sun, we were feeling parched, but Shaun Was keen to catch a bigger shark.
We drove out another couple of k’s and the breeze gave us a second lease of energy. we set a live foot long Pike on a balloon and it wasn’t long before the balloon disappeared. After 10 minutes we had Bruce the big 5-6 foot bronzy at the boat. Another sea snake then appeared before the shark proceeded to thrash against the boat, Pete’s anxiety had reached new heights lol. The shark was released and it was time for beers, so we headed for the ramp.
After Pete bought a case of beer we jumped in the boat and floated around while cleaning the squid and filleting the fish. We finished it off with a beautiful sunset while drinking beer on the boat.
Once the boat was back at camp, it was Pete’s choice for dinner, fresh black snapper or the pub? He chose the pub. More than a couple of pints were drunk and we had a beautiful big feed. Pete couldn’t stop saying how much fun he had had.
    WHAT A DAY DENHAM!
