  • A ‘Brett’s Adventure’ - Crowdy Head

    2021年1月18日, オーストラリア ⋅ 23 °C

Once we got going today, we decide to head up Back Beach, at Crowdy Head to set up for the morning and have some breakfast. Brett suggested a walk with our coffees around the cliffs and to the beach. This walk turned into one of ‘Brett’s Adventures’ which would have been best using two hands to get down the slippery rock walls, but we made it. On the way back we stumbled upon a diamond python, but the kids screams scared it under a rock. After a while we decided to go back and see if it had come back out to sun itself.

After lunch, we headed into Harrington for a fish on the break wall. The boys had a skate and we ate dinner while we watched sun set over the water.

  • First Adventures in the Roof Top Tinny

    2021年1月19日, オーストラリア ⋅ 🌧 23 °C

The boys were stinging to get the boat down! The day started out beautiful and sunny, but by the time they got the boat down, the engine out and all the gear sorted a storm had rolled into Harrington. They waited for it to clear and headed out. In between torrential down pours the boys fished, unfortunately they did not bring home the goods. They headed out again that night, to come home with a whiting.

The kids entrained themselves at the park, which became a ‘wet and wild’ slip and slide fun park.

  • The Kids Turn!

    2021年1月20日, オーストラリア ⋅ ☁️ 21 °C

Today, the kids got to go out in the tinny, they nagged all day yesterday, but it was the big boys turn.

The rain stopped, so we packed the tinny ready for the kids to go out for a fish.

Uncle Shaun ended up cleaning up on the kids fishing trip, catching flathead after flathead, two of the were keepers! Yum yum.

Brax thought he hooked onto something big, but it was a bark fish (hehehehe).

  • Red Rock

    2021年1月22日, オーストラリア ⋅ 26 °C

Today, we spent the day at Red Rock. We had tried to get into the caravan park for a few nights, but it is Australia Day next week, so it is an extra long weekend this weekend, so no luck. It looked like such a good spot, so we decided to drive in and spend the day. We got up early to ensure we got prime water front location at the boat ramp and set up for the day.

Brett, Brax and I went for a walk around the headland to find the famous ‘Red Rock’. Lachlan who is not a big fan of walking decided to sit this one out and stayed back at the van. We discovered on the walk that town is not actually named after a large red rock, but after a massacre when the settlers came over and The Aboriginal people who were forced to jump off the rock causing their death, the rock was originally know as ‘Blood Rock’.

Ryan and Bec who were on there way out to their dad’s farm called in for the afternoon, the boys were so excited to see the girls, Ellie and Chloe.

  • Day of Firsts

    2021年1月23日, オーストラリア ⋅ ☀️ 27 °C

We hit our first BIG Australian icon today and we had our first travelling birthday.

Breakfast at the Big Banana was yummy, followed by a toboggan ride for the kids, what a way to celebrate Lyla’s 3rd birthday.

Katrina did a great job whipping up a pink unicorn cake as requested by Lyla, at our lunch park stop.

  • Catching Billy Bass - Glenreagh

    2021年1月25日, オーストラリア ⋅ 26 °C

Before we left on our ‘Big Lap’ we set ourselves some family goals. One of these goals was to catch our dinner, well we can tick this goal off the list ( for now ).

Brett and Shaun set off down to the creek, Brett eager to try out his new cicada lure. The new lure must have been a good one because not much later they returned to the van with a bass each.

We decided to cook ‘Billy the Bass’ on the camp fire using some of the garlic Bec’s dad grows on the farm. Fresh bass with campfire potatoes, yum!. The kids loved helping to prepare the dinner and also demolished the fish once it was cooked. Brax who never eats potato said “This is the best potato I have ever had!”.

  • Australia Day at Glenreagh

    2021年1月26日, オーストラリア ⋅ ☀️ 29 °C

What a way to spend Australia Day, relaxing by a local watering hole.

The crystal clear water looked so inviting, but a predator had been terrorising us the last few days making the kids (and some adults) a bit scared to go swimming. After Ryan identified the toe nibbler as a giant cat fish, the boys ( Brett and Shaun) came armed with fishing rods and worms they had freshly dug up from the property. Bam! First cast, Shaun caught the nasty perpetrator and the swimming hole was safe again!

The kids did not get out of the water for the entire day, they had floats, snorkels, flippers and rope swings to keep them busy. They named the blow up mattress the ‘Turtle Express’ and went turtle watching. I asked them to catch me a turtle for a photo, but they were not successful. After a while Brett spots a turtle in the shallows, grabs his net from the car and caught me a turtle. We all enjoyed having a hold and a photo with the turtle.

  • Glenreagh

    2021年1月31日, オーストラリア ⋅ ☁️ 26 °C

Glenreagh did not disappoint, a relaxing week with good friends is exactly what we needed after what felt like endless months of preparation to leave on our trip.

We arrived on Saturday 23 January and we are heading off today, Sunday the 31st of January.

We spent the first part of the week, which was extremely hot, by the river. The kids with their endless energy swimming non-stop on all sorts of blow up devises.

The boys were loving borrowing the girls motorbikes when we were at the property. They would jump on and ride them around the field until they ran out of fuel.

The nights were spent by the camp fire, roasting marshmallows and the kids running around playing spotlight.

Later on in the week, Ryan had a mishap with his car. This meant a boys trip into town to get parts putting our day trips on hold. Luckily it only took 1 day to get a special order in from Sydney and then he was back on the road.

Whilst at Glenreagh we applied to get into SA and got our approval, so next stop South Australia here we come!

  • What a day!

    2021年2月1日, オーストラリア ⋅ 32 °C

The day started of beautifully. Brett had found an amazing free camp last night at Cangai Bridge, so we woke up to a stunning view. We had booked in at Moree tonight and planned on spending the day at the artisan hot springs, so we set off on our way, but the day had other plans for us.

Poor Braxy has been sick for a week now, with no improvements, so when we hit Glen Innes, off to the hospital we go, a few hours later ( after a lousy check up) and a park lunch we set off again.

As we are motoring along, Shaun radios in with car trouble, so over we pull, the boys do their bush mechanics and off we go again!

    Next stop a chemist!!

Finally at 6pm we reach Moree and are more than ready for a swim! That 3 hour drive sure did feel like it took all day 😩.

  • Brewarrina

    2021年2月2日, オーストラリア ⋅ ⛅ 27 °C

We are on the move to South Australia, so each day we are trying to get a few hours of driving done. So far so good and we are still managing to find ourselves a beautiful place to make camp each night.

On the way out in the morning, Lachlan was dying to climb a large dirt wall we had driven past on the way in, to see what was on the other side, so Brett stopped and climbed it with him. Brax still not feeling well decided to sit this one out.

  • Cobar

    2021年2月3日, オーストラリア ⋅ 29 °C

Cobar did not disappoint! Free entry into the pool, where the kids (and adults) enjoyed cooling down on the waterslide and blow-up obstical course. Then out to our favourite camp spot, the Old Reservoir.

The boys were determined to catch some yabbies even though they could not buy a yabbie trap (apparently they are now illegal!), so they set off with a fishing rod and cooked sausage.

It was another late night for the kids, can’t seem to get them in bed before 10.30pm 😱, but they were having a ball, catching yabbies and living life to its fullest.

  • Silverton

    2021年2月4日, オーストラリア ⋅ ☁️ 31 °C

Brax has been hanging to get to Silverton, he loves the Mad Max Museum! He woke up in Broken Hill after having a sleep and was excited as we only had 30 minutes to go. We drove straight up to the Mad Max museum, by-passing the Pub to find out the museum was closed 😞.
This is the 2nd time we have visited Silverton and the Museum has been closed, so off to the pub we went.

I had my first drive towing the caravan today, it was very scary!

We set up camp on the Mundi Mundi Plains and Brett and the boys cooked up the yabbies they caught last night. Lachlan ( to my surprise ) really likes yabbies and ate quite a few! Brax is not so keen on them. Shaun said he is in the Department of Primary Industry, so he just supplies the yabbies and does not eat them 🤣.

  • Goodbye Outback NSW

    2021年2月5日, オーストラリア ⋅ ⛅ 22 °C

This morning, we said goodbye to outback NSW, as we explored Broken Hill.

Now, we are headed to the South Australian border, with our border passes in hand! fingers crossed they let us across!

  • Renmark and the Dinghy Derby Races

    2021年2月7日, オーストラリア ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

We arrived in Renmark late Friday afternoon, pumped about the Dinghy Derby Races on Sunday. As we rolled into town, Brax spots a massive BMX track! We can’t say no to letting the boys have a go, so we pull up and and grab the bikes off.

On Saturday we explore the town and find out the best spot to set up camp and watch the Dingy Derby races. We got a beautiful location on the Murray and set ourselves up there for the next few days.

The Derby Race did not disappoint on Sunday, the boats came flying past our riverside camp spot at speed. I was in charge of taking some action shots on the camera, Brett was in charge of flying the drone, unfortunately he flew it straight into a tree and then it fell in the river 😱! Needless to say we need a new drone!

After the race was over the boys (and Lyla) were keen to have a run through of the race track in their tinny, so down came the boat.

On Monday, Brett took the boys and I into town via boat, the scenery is stunning along the Murray.

We finished up the day by filling up the water tanks and playing our favourite camping game ‘whose poo is it ?’ 😂😂 ( Aunty Kat hates this game, you can’t even mention it to her without her gagging ) .

On to the next stop, where will it be.......

  • Naracoote Caves

    2021年2月9日, オーストラリア ⋅ ☀️ 10 °C

Brett and I are trying to get into a bit of a routine and get some exercise in, so we set the alarm for first light and got up and explored the little town of Pinnaroo. They had a free animal sanctuary on the street with kangaroos, emus and some other birds. Then we walked down to the wetlands. There was so many turtles, someone must feed them because as soon as they saw us they all came swimming over. Then last stop, the bakery for a vanilla slice doughnut.

Once we got back and got everyone up, we headed for Naracoorte Caves. Brax was excited to go to the fossil centre, as last time we were there Lachlan was sick and we had to give it a miss.

The kids were amazed by the recreations of the caves and the animals from the prehistoric times, they were gasping, pointing and could not stop pointing out all the different features.

We also did a self-guided tour of the Stick Tomato Cave.

Then we headed out to the local man made swimming lake to cool off. It was made by locals and volunteers in the 60’s and was funded by donations at around $8000. When they had to re concrete it in the 90’s it coast over half a million dollars. It is filled with boar water.

  • The Sink Hole and Little Blue Lake

    2021年2月10日, オーストラリア ⋅ ☀️ 30 °C

Yes! We did it, we got up and went for a walk, today we explored The Pines where we camped last night. It was a little bit creepy, but very beautiful. I was a bit worried we were going to get lost in the forest forever, but we made it back ( just in time for Brett to poo 💩).

Upherston’s Sink Hole was stunning and we even came across a little possum. The boys have started to take an interest in photography, and tried taking some pictures at the sink hole.

Then we ventured out to Little Blue Lake. Everyone had a ball! We were expecting the water to be freezing, we were told it would be 15 degrees, but it was much warmer than that. We spent the afternoon here, swimming and jumping of the cliffs into the deep blue water. Brett did the big cliff jump, but the kids and I stuck the the small cliff ( Lachlan wanted to do the big cliff, but I would not let him! ). I was devastated I did not have the drone :( we might have to go back.

  • Mt Gambier

    2021年2月12日, オーストラリア ⋅ 19 °C

Last time we were in Mt Gambier Lachlan was sick with a stomach bug, so we only did a flying visit.

We were not planning to come to Mt Gambier as we had been before, but Kat and Shaun had not been. I am so glad we decided to come. There is so much to do and see here, it is such a beautiful little town.

After exploring the main sights on Wednesday the Umperston’s Sink Hole, Blue Lake and Little Blue Lake we discovered some more things to do.

Brett desperately needed some new clothes, so we went into town on Thursday. It was extremely painful (as shopping with Brett always is). The kids were very well behaved and got themselves some new DVDs. While we were there we popped into a camping shop with a very friendly and helpful owner who gave us a hot fishing tip, so we knew where we were heading tonight.

In the middle of town we found another sink hole/cave. Then we went to the Arts Centre and watched a movie ‘The Volcano’ on how the craters of Mt Gambier were made. Lachlan was very interested in the movie, and both boys learnt a lot about the history of Mt Gambier.

We headed put to the hot fishing/ camping spot and it was a winner ( no fish) but a beautiful spot on the beach. There were some locals camped next to us who gave the boys some fishing tips (still no luck), they also hooked us up with an awesome crayfish they had caught.

It was fantastic to catch up with my friend Cassie from work who is also traveling Australia. I think we will be seeing more of each other as we have very similar travel plans.

  • 8 Mile Creek - Mt Gambier

    2021年2月13日, オーストラリア ⋅ ⛅ 19 °C

We have fish! Bagged out on snapper. I guess the fishing tip was a good one!

Excitement all round today with the opening of the new drone we ordered earlier in the week.

  • Ewen Ponds and Mt Schank

    2021年2月14日, オーストラリア ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

Last bit of sight seeing for Mt Gabier as we head out of town.

We nearly left Ewen Ponds because the car park was soooo small and we struggled to park the two vans. Luckily we stayed because a very lovely couple noticed Brax carrying his Go-Pro and offered to take the Go-Pro down and film the ponds whilst snorkelling. We got some amazing footage, It is a beautiful underwater world. Next lap, I think we need to put this on the to do list!

Next, we headed to Mt Schank, we thought we we just going to walk up the volcano wall 🌋😂, but we were with Brett. Brett said he thought to himself “what would Uncle Dan do if he was here, Uncle Dan would walk down into the crater of the volcano,” so that’s what we did.

Katrina was happy that both of her kids had fallen asleep on the drive in so she didn’t have to carry either of them, I think Shaun was secretly happy to, as this meant he got to stay behind.

What an amazing play space, 3 hours later 😂😂 we were back on the road.

  • Nora Creina

    2021年2月16日, オーストラリア ⋅ ⛅ 26 °C

We love getting a tip of a local or fellow traveler about a hot spot to visit. The lovely couple who filmed the Go-Pro footage for us at Ewen Ponds told us about Nora Creina, just past Robe, so we had to check it out and it did not disappoint 😍.

We spent most of the day here, my rule of collecting one shell from each beach we visit went out the window, as there were so many beautiful ones, so I just took a small handful instead 🙈.

A quick stop at Robe Brewery on the way home, for a tasting paddle. Now the boys have gone for a late night squid, so we will see what they come back with ( another late night for the kids). I think their bedtime has changed from 7.30pm to 10.30pm since we have started travelling 😱.

  • Hahndorf - Farm Barn

    2021年2月18日, オーストラリア ⋅ 32 °C

Lachlan had been a bit sad that he was missing his Year Two excursion to Oakvale Farm this year, so we planned a special day for the kids.

We did not tell the kids where we were going today, Lachlan didn’t cotton on to where we were at first, but Brax was straight onto it, he saw the signs as we drove in. Brax announced to Lachlan where we were and he was so excited he didn’t even want lunch ( which is not like Lachlan).

Being the middle of the week it was great, we had the place to ourselves, the kids held baby animals, milked a cow, bottle feed baby animals and hand fed the adult animals. It was stinking hot, but the kids couldn't contain their excitement running from animal to animal.

Lachlan loved holding the guinea pigs and noticed that they had some for sale, he really wanted one for the caravan. He argued that they were small and didn’t take up much room, he tried hard to win the argument, but we left empty handed ( maybe when we get back home).
