• Coober Pedy

We pulled into Coober Pedy and it was bucketing down, so no exploring for us today. The red dirt quickly turned into red mud, that made a thick slick layer on your shoes if you had to leave the van for any reason, which we avoided at all costs!

Over night, gale force winds kicked in, this was good for drying out the ground, but made us feel a little queasy from all the rocking the caravan was doing.

Luckily, the mine tour was underground and out of the wind.

Tom’s mine tour, what a great experience. Lachie has been dying to get some mining done. On the tour the guide kept the adults busy with information and kept kids busy mining for opals. He even hid one very special one worth $400, Brax the lucky duck found it and got to keep it.

After the tour, they valued the kids opal findings, Lachlan had found 2 good ones, if he polishes them up they will be worth about $300. They offered to buy them off him, but he chose to keep them.

After they found out how interested the kids were in mining and stones they gave them some other fossils to clean up and some polished sandstone to engrave. They were so generous and great with the kids.
