Barra Fishing Day 1

What a great start! Go Brax!
The day started with the boat in the water early and I felt out a handful of snags before rafting up to the pontoon.
The kids and I decided to head out at 10am as the tide started to push in. After checking out a few spots and feeling our way through all the new timber we headed back toward camp.
With the pontoon in sight and the kids starting to peta out I saw the opportunity for a solo lure troll through some seriously thick timber. On the approach the sounder was lit up with snags and the boat barely scraped through. As the lure approached the zone it got smashed, I was on and the 60cm plus fish launched a meter into the air violently shaking its head and my bright green and red Barra Classic pulled from its jaws……. Splash and the fish was gone 😔
As I circled the boat round to go again I noticed Brax had my new rod in his hand, “what are you doing” I said, Brax “I’m having a go”………. 🙄. On the approach I was sure he was going to snag and ruin my next run. But then “I’m on” shouted Brax, I said, sure you’re not snagged? “No I’m on”, ok not really believing him I stopped the boat, and started pulling my lure in when his rod was nearly yanked from his hands, he was on and it was a good fish. We all worked together holding plenty of tension on the fish and manoeuvring the boat to negotiate the twisted maze of timber. With a glimpse of colour the kids both cursed loudly “holly shit, it’s massive”. Brax continued to do a great job reeling it away from the snags and towards the middle of the river. With the fish now in clear water and our hearts in our mouths we played it into the net.
WOW! What a fish, 86cm.
Brax carried it up the the steep bank and through the camp proud as punch, with many admiring on lookers. Plenty of photo’s were taken and what an epic start to day one of our 2 week Barra expedition………
