• Brax Wins Again! 81cm Barra

22 de mayo de 2023, Australia

The kids and I deployed the Cherabin pots and we caught 2 overnight. Brax was keen on a fish so off we went. I had a spot I was certain was holding good Barra but it was impossible to be trolled due to two large tree’s protruding out from the bank.
On the way down we pulled into our first snag and I trolled out a 65cm Barra on my first attempt, you beauty, I was very happy.
We continued trolling down to spot X and tied up on one of the trees. I rigged up the small 30 pound snapper rod with light weight and 8/0 hook. We baited it and Brax threw it in. It was killing me to watch, I wanted the rod but I thought Brax could have the first and I would have the second cherabin which also happened to be bigger lol. Brax seemed to be barely concentrating and was yapping away while I was 100% focussed on the rod. After less than 2 minutes I noticed the line taking off, “Brax Go”, we were on but with a few big yanks the fish snagged us 🙄
I was thoroughly disappointed, you can’t give these fish and inch however Brax had been putting the hours in with me so I re-rigged and gave him the second cherabin. This time, Brax had more instruction, no talking and constantly lift the line. Within a minute, after a lift, I noticed the line slacken and I yelled, “wind!”. As he wound the line slackened further until it was nearly at the boat and then bang! It turned and we were on a big fish, the drag was singing and Brax did really well to keep it from the snags and bring it back to the boat, I was very proud. We landed the 80cm steam train and Brax decided to keep it which meant we had to finish up as it didn’t fit in the esky.
Once again Brax had out fished me 😂
