• Picking Up Shaun From Darwin

    May 26, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 23 °C

It was a long day. I left after lunch for the 3 hour drive to Darwin with a list of supplies needed from Woolworths, BWS, Big W, BCF and Repco. After all the jobs were done I caught up with Leigh and Jenny for dinner at Stokes Hill Wharf which was great. They have $4.50 beers and a range of food shops. You sit on the edge of the wharf overlooking the 5 meter drop to the water with no rails, I do love the lack of safety rails in NT. The meal was great and at the end you throw your scraps to the fish, there were giant angelfish and trevally, mullet, milk fish and others. It was awesome to see Leigh and Jenny and hear how they were going after selling the park.
I headed to the airport for a quick snooze but it was so hot in the car and wasn’t very pleasant. Shaun arrived at 1am and off we went. We got a McDonald’s coffee on the run and chatted. Before we knew it we were half way and stopped to check out a fire on Durat Road. There were so many grass fires burning the whole bush seemed to have a red glows scattered through it. We arrived at 4am and both the kids woke up to greet Uncle Shaun. Also I had a new air bed for them as the one they were using was going down and they said they woke up three times to pump it up in the night. Shaun and I had a couple of beers to settle down then off to bed for a couple of hours sleep.
    It was a big day!
