    Cod Fishing - Port Hedland

    15 июля 2021 г., Indian Ocean ⋅ ☀️ 24 °C

Lachie kept nagging Brett to take him out fishing so they went for a quick trawl before dark. Lachie pulled in this stomper of a fish! Go lachie.

    Date Night - Port Hedland

    18 июля 2021 г., Австралия ⋅ 🌙 22 °C

Kid free dinner at The Esplanade.

People who travel together have date night together 😂😂.

Kat and Shaun got their date night on the same night, we all left the kids with the grandparents, when Brett and I arrived they sat us at a table right next to each other 😆.

At one point Brett took a photo of Kat and Shaun behind us and a stranger saw him and told Shaun that Brett was taking photos of him 😆😆

80 Mile Beach - last day.

    26 июля 2021 г., Австралия ⋅ ⛅ 18 °C

We were set for a big adventure to Anna Plains today to get the big dog shells. We were going to find a way onto that beach if it killed us! ( it is private property and they were booked out). As we’re about to drive out Kat knocked on our car window and they had messaged her with an availability! They must of had a cancellation. Kat and Shaun quickly packed up their van and I packed an overnight bag, I was not missing out on getting some of these shells. I left Brett and the kids and headed off and boy was it worth it. The kids were a bit sad, but I got them some special shells.

Not long after I left nan and pop spoilt them with ice cream and lollies, so I was soon forgotten!

They all had a great last day at 80 Mile and then sadly had to say goodbye to nan and pop. It was so great catching up with all the family.

    26 июля 2021 г., Indian Ocean ⋅ ⛅ 27 °C

Kat and I nearly jumped out of the car while it was still going when we saw these shells! All our shell dreams had come true 😍. We were squealing, clapping, pointing out the window and yelling for the car to be stopped so we could get out and just look at all shells. You could just spend days upon days just walking up and down the beach looking at all the amazing shells. We may have even got ourselves a few special ones to take home 😉.Читать далее

Mud Crab Adventures - Port Smith

    29 июля 2021 г., Австралия ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

We hit up the lagoon at low tide and thought we would try our hand at ‘hooking’ mud crabs. After exploring the mud flats for a while we did not have much luck, but then I (Lauren) stumbled upon a monster hiding in a rock cave. Brett tried his best with the wire hook, but we could not get him out, eventually he went deep into the cave where we couldn’t see him anymore. We were devastated, but it motivated us all to come back out tonight on the next low tide and try again.

Although, the morning crabbing mission was unsuccessful, we found a heap of other cool things in the rock pools. The most exciting was the Lion Fish, which are extremely venomous, but very beautiful, the footage doesn’t do it justice. We also found turtles and a stingray stranded in the tidal pools.

After dinner, we set off with our torches ready to get the big monster mud crab. We did not get the one we were hunting, another crab had moved into his hole, but we cleaned up. We caught 3 mud crabs the last one having the biggest claws on it we have ever seen. One of its claws was the size of Brett’s hand. To say that Brett was happy was an understatement.

Brett cleaned them up and cooked chilli mud crab for tea the next night and could not stop talking about how this was the mud crab of his dreams. Let’s just say he was lucky to have me there as a spotter or he would have none 😉.

    Camel Ride on Cable Beach

    3 августа 2021 г., Австралия ⋅ ⛅ 28 °C

Brett and I weren’t keen at first on riding the camels, but the kids were. When Kat went on to book the camel ride Brett and I decided last minute to go with the kids and I am glad we did, it was a lot of fun.

On our first visit to cable beach Kat and the kids went for a walk and worked out which camels they wanted to ride. They chose the only company that has the camels lay down for you to hop on and off. This made it feel more authentic, it was also the scariest part as it feels like you are going to get tipped right off the very tall animal. Brax and I were very lucky, we got to be on the lead camel Jimmy.

We went for a 30min ride along Cable Beach where we got to see see some beautiful views of the ocean and some not so beautiful views of nudists 😂😂, the kids did find this quite funny though.

After our ride we stayed and had dinner and drinks on the beach and watched the sun go down, a perfect way to end the day.

Unfortunately, for Brax he may have got a bit of the runs after his McDonalds lunch and had to do his first bush poo.

    Coconut Well

    4 августа 2021 г., Австралия ⋅ ⛅ 27 °C

We decided to head out and find these rock pools we had heard so much about, they were meant to be amazing. So we headed off down Cable Beach, we made sure we got there for the out going tides, but unfortunately we don’t think the high tide had been high enough to fill all the pools. The kids enjoyed exploring the rock pools and seeing what sea creatures they could find. I thought that a drone photo would be great to show all the pools from above, but because the water is so clear it just looks like a mud pit 😂.Читать далее

    Middle Lagoon - The Dampier

    11 августа 2021 г., Австралия ⋅ ☀️ 27 °C

The week just flew by, what a beautiful spot, we swam everyday in the crystal clear water. The lagoon was safe for swimming and croc free. We had to drag the kids out of the water at sunset nearly everyday. They happily swam, boogie boarded, used their pool noodles, played cars and collected shells for hours. We even found some time to fit in some craft, the kids had a ball doing some marbling.Читать далее

Brett and Shaun were still chasing a mackerel, it was our last day so their alarm was set for a early fish, but the wind had other ideas. We woke up and it was blowing a gale, there was dust everywhere. We ended up having a quiet morning inside the van.

As the day went on the wind died off so the boys headed out in the boat and Kat and I took the kids to hit up the cafe for ice creams before heading down beach to cool off.

The boys didn’t end up getting their mackerel, but they did bring home some other nice new fish for us to try.

Kat and I finally got our pedicures, our feet were peturid! The months of red dirt and living in thongs had caught up with us. We sat for the 40 min and highly enjoyed our kid free time in the massage chairs. The time went way to fast 😂.

    19 августа 2021 г., Австралия ⋅ ☀️ 33 °C

This week in Broome, was not quite as relaxing as the last time we were here. We spent most of the week trying to organise how we would get the boat onto the roof of our car. This meant dropping a lot of weight from the van and lot of trips to Bunnings, Auto Pro and the Post Office!

In between all of our jobs we did manage to get in a few swims at Cable beach, a date night and catch up with friends from Cactus who are camped 2 camps sites over. The kids have had a ball playing in the hammocks and playing spotlight every night.

The van should feel a lot lighter after we posted my 50kg shell collection home today, plus a few other items from the van. Our first quote for the 3 boxes from Toll came in at $2250 😳😳😳. After culling a few items ( none of my shells 🐚) , we got a quote from Australia Post which was more reasonable, so $365 later our items are on their way!

Derby - The Boab Prison Tree

    20 августа 2021 г., Австралия ⋅ ☀️ 33 °C

On the way into Derby we stopped to check out the Boab Prison Tree. Then we headed into town to do jobs 🙄. The kids thought the prison tree was cool, but didn’t believe me at first when I told them what it use to be used for, then they read the information board!

‘The Boab Prison Tree, also known as Kunumudj is believed to be 1,500 years old.

This remarkable tree has a circumference of over 14 metres and has an oblong slit in the bark, through which the hollow centre is visible - this is common among older boab trees when the soft spongy trunk tissue dies off, causing the trunk to become hollow.

The Boab Prison Tree is a culturally significant site for the local Nyikina people and is also important in the story of the early settlement of Derby and the region’s pastoral industry. It is known to have been used for several different purposes - accounts from the early 1900’s indicate that the tree had been in use by local Aboriginal people, whether as a resting place or a sacred place is unclear. The tree and adjacent Myalls Bore were also the last overnight stop for local pastoralists droving cattle to the port at Derby. The Boab prison tree is also said to have been used as a prison, or as a holding area for Aboriginal prisoners being transported long distances to the gaol at Derby.’

At Derby park the kids found another boab tree that had fallen down and enjoyed playing in this while we had lunch.

    Derby - Birdwood Downs Station

    21 августа 2021 г., Австралия ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C

We were all excited to see a white peacock, but when he put his tail up it absolutely made my morning. He was just stunning.

The kids (and adults) had such a great time at this station with all the different birds that visited our camp site each morning. The peacocks and chickens were so tame that we could hand feed them.Читать далее
