Brett and Shaun disappeared for one of there fishing expeditions, heading off in the afternoon and not returning until god knows what time in the night ( maybe midnight?).

But it was a trip well worth it, they came back and said it was one of the best fishing sessions yet. Brett kept saying how alive the ocean was.

They caught 12 or so Threadfin, but couldn’t keep them all due to bag limits. Brett said that he was so busy he didn’t even have time for a beer.

This station really has it all, fishing, shells, beautiful animals, hot tub, pool, grass, and a relaxing vibe, hopefully we can make it back again some day.

After a massive week at Port Hedland the van is spotless inside and out, the car is clean inside and out, school work is organised, tax is done, birthday and Christmas shopping is complete, the van has been fitted out with new bedding, haircuts were given and shells have been washed 😜. Brett even managed to fit in a day out on the boat with Mel and Joel and then we snuck in date night at the last minute.Read more

  • South Lefroy - The Ningaloo

    October 28, 2021 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 19 °C

We made it back, we were unsure, we questioned ourselves after seeing the wind predictions, but we had beach front sites booked, so we came anyway. We woke up to the best views, it was a stunner of a morning, there was wind, but it is bearable, we geared up and ducked out for a pre breakfast snorkel. If it stays like this it will be fine, I can definitely start each day off like this.Read more

Day two, just as good as the first. Left the snorkel a little later and had breakfast first today. There is just so much to explore in the underwater world, it is just all so amazing.

Everyday there is something new at the Ningaloo.

Today it was dolphins right out the front of our camp and the boys cleaned up on squid.

It was all fun and games until the oil exploded out of the pot during the cooking process and burnt my hand 😔. Everyone assured me that the squid was worth the burnt hand 🤔, it was good squid.Read more

Part 2 - The arvo snorkel

The highlight of this snorkel was the massive chilled out turtle who swam around with us the whole afternoon.

Kids caught dinner tonight! Squid! Yum.

Lunchtime snorkel, unfortunately the clouds came over a bit and Kat and I got really cold 🥶. Today we found a massive purple bommie, it looked iridescent in the sun.

Afternoon squidding session for the grown up boys. We are definitely cleaning up on the squid this trip 🤤

When you go out looking for nesting turtles and you find a baby rabbit instead!

Guess we have a pet rabbit named Speedy for a few days! Although Lachlan is trying hard to swap the hermit crabs for a bunny, but it is not going to happen, the rabbit is going back to the bush where it came from.Read more

Is there any other way to start each day than drinking a coffee/chai and watching the turtles swim by?

And then another beautiful sunset at the Ningaloo to finish the day off perfectly.

    November 6, 2021, Indian Ocean ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

It was a bit windy and chilly today.

The boys still got out in the boat and brought back a tuna, it was only a 3 star fish so Kat and I were not overly impressed 😕. Brett said he would cover it in salt, pepper, olive oil and then cook it on the BBQ and insisted it would be really nice, and it actually was! It was a different texture, it was very much like chicken.

In the afternoon we headed out to the Norwegian Bay Whaling Station Ruins and checked them out.

On the way back we stopped at the water wells to get some more water, when we first arrived at camp the caretaker told us about these water wells in the sand dunes. They were only 2kms from our camp and meant that we were able to get water as often as we needed and shower as often as we liked 😂😂.

  • Turquoise Bay - The Ningaloo

    November 11, 2021 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 27 °C

What a stunner of a day. We all got out for a snorkel and the wind dropped of so we spent the rest of the day swimming in the crystal clear waters of Turquoise Bay.

Lachlan the fish feeder, found some fish close to the shore and started feeding them chips. The fish were surrounding the kids, is was just amazing, the fish were not scared at all. The kids could not get enough of these fish, it was safe to say, no one else got to eat any chips 😂😂.Read more

  • Osprey Bay - The Ningaloo

    November 12, 2021 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 27 °C

Finally got to stay at Ospray Bay campground, and it has not disappointed. A stunning campground right on the Ningaloo reef. We went out for a snorkel today and saw a heap of turtles. There is not as much coral here, but lots of large coloured fish, cool octopuses and turtles ( and who could ever get sick of seeing turtles 😍)

Brax and Lachie have been really cute, taking themselves off for a fish together on the rocks. I love seeing them work together to get their fishing gear ready and then stick together while they fish, they are getting so grown up.

  • Osprey Bay - The Ningaloo

    November 13, 2021 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 27 °C

What a day! Not a whisper of wind, it was spectacular. For some reason everyone set up for the day on this cramped bit of beach, but we walked up around the path a bit and had a whole bay to ourselves, it was like being on a tropical island. The kids spent the morning snorkelling with turtles in the shallows.

Kat purchased a dome for the GoPro so we went chasing turtles and tried to photograph one taking a breath, it is a lot harder than it looks.

The big boys went out fishing.

When it was time for lunch it was nearly impossible to drag the kids out of the water, they were having such a good time, Kat and I also found it hard to get out, the water was so warm it was like a bath. We had to ask ourselves “ how hungry are we?”.

After lunch we headed straight back down for another swim and some more turtle chasing. Brett and Shaun turned up with their catch.
    2 coronation trout
    1 cobia
    1 rankin cod
But they were not happy, their mackerel and tuna had been sharked. They filleted the fish they had and announced they were going for another trawl.

Kat and I announced we were going back to drink cocktails 😂.

Whilst drinking our cocktails the boys arrived back in a much better mood as Shaun had caught a massive 1.4m mackerel! They were so happy with this catch they let go of a second mackerel that was around 1.0m.

We all jumped in the boat and went around to Sandy Bay for the day. After a relax and a sun bake Kat and I were off on our never ending snorkelling mission - hunting for turtles 🐢! We are what you might say is obsessed. Well we were successful, we found a whole bunch of turtles having some lunch. We spent a good hour or so swimming around with them, watching them and taking some photos. We just can’t get enough of the turtles.

After chillin out on the beach for the day, the boys could not resist going out for another trawl. They have got the mackerel catching bug! They came back with another two big dogs, they are definitely bringing home the goods now. The freezers are packed to the rafters, we have Mackay for days.
