  • Hahndorf - Beerenberg Farm

    February 18, 2021 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 34 °C

After the Barn Farm we visited the Beerenberg farm for strawberry picking. They said we could eat one or two strawberries while we picked, yes we only ate one or two handfuls 😂😂😂😋😋.

We then stocked up on some of their jams and chutneys, which are delicious.

  • Port Broughton

    February 20, 2021 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 28 °C

Exploring Port Broughton with Cassie my friend from work who came to stay with us for the night, meanwhile all the boys are out trying to catch fish!

While we were out on the jetty, a local (camel and horse slaughter) taught the boys how to catch trumpet fish.

We were determined to catch some crabs, so we went out to the jetty after dinner even though storm was rolling in and it was freezing! We stood in the rain catching trumpet fish for the crab traps, but no luck they were all under size 😞.

  • Birthday Celebrations in Port Broughton

    February 22, 2021 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 17 °C

What a way to spend your birthday, exploring beautiful seaside towns in South Australia.

Breakfast from Wallaroo Bakery, yum 😋. Then Brett and Shaun were meant to catch me some squid off the Jetty, but no luck, it was to windy!

We hit up some key locations for some photos, then onto Moonta Mines for the afternoon.

Moonta Mines is part of an old mine site on the Copper Coast where they use to mine for copper.

Then home to chill with Netflix for the first time since we took off in the caravan.

I definitely felt the love throughout the day with lots of phone calls and messages from home 💕.

This week it is also Katrina’s birthday, she asked her mum for Lamington Bites 🤤. Luckily for me, I was also included in this express birthday package. Kat’s Mum express posted us 20 bags 😂🙈. To say we are addicted is an understatement! You just can’t get them in South Australia!

    Thanks Eileen 🥰, yum!

What a spot, waterfront living and fresh squid for dinner. Yum, thanks Brett and Shaun.

  • Port Lowly

    February 28, 2021 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 20 °C

Today was the kids turn to go for a squid, they were super keen to catch a squid!

I decided to stay home, I had been battling a migraine the last few days and wasn’t I devastated when I heard and saw what they got to experience in the boat today! Very playful dolphins 🐬!

Luckily they had caught a few squid before their playmates had come in for the morning 😀. The kids were way to excited to karate chop the squid!!!! They then learnt the skill of cleaning and preparing the squid for dinner.

  • Whalers Way

    March 3, 2021 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 18 °C

What a magic slice of coast line. Whalers Way is a private bit of coast line south west of Port Lincoln. We had to purchase a permit for $40 to enter.

In 1837 to 1842 this part of the coast was home to a shore based whaling station. It is now a historic reserve.

There was a epic rock pool with crystal clear water which was perfect for a picture. I knew I would regret not getting in ( even though it was freezing 🥶). I made Kat get in and get the photo too!

It was extremely hard to pick the pictures for today’s entry! So many beautiful spots.

  • Port Lincoln National Park

    March 5, 2021 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 19 °C

What a day! Another amazing place. We set off at 6.30am for Memory Cove, but we never actually made it there.

On the way, we went 4WD through the sand dunes, both cars getting slightly bogged.

The kids had a ball sliding down the massive sand dunes on their boogie boards.

Some more 4WD tracks and sight seeing along the coast line, which was spectacular. We come across Wedding Cake Island with its crystal clear blue water and thought it looked like a great beach to have lunch on. Unfortunately, the sand was very soft and we got bogged on the incoming tide. We quickly got ourselves out of that and off the beach.

We drove along some beautiful cliffs which lead to a dead end. We had gotten a bit off the track to Memory Cove. We came across the first car we had seen all day, it was now 3.30pm and a local told us we were still 1.5 hours away from Memory Cove. We decided to stay and spend the afternoon at Wanna Bay a pristine bay and give Memory Cove a miss. Hopefully we can come back and see it next year.

We had an awesome day 4WD and exploring in the national park.

  • Hanging with TIAV

    March 6, 2021 in Australia ⋅ ☁️ 20 °C

We had been hoping to bump into these guys, so to say we were excited when they pulled into the same camp ground as us today was probably an understatement 🤩!

The kids played the afternoon away together, cricket, tennis, bikes, yo-yos and had a ball together, while parents had a few drinks 🍺

  • Heading to Lake Gairdner

    March 8, 2021 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 27 °C

We are on our way to Lake Gairdner for the Dry Lake Salt Races.

We have taped up the van, we have pool noodled the pipes and we have aired down the tyres ready to travel the 140kms of dirt road to get to Lake Gairdner. Now let’s cross our fingers and toes that the red dust stays on the outside of the caravan 🤪Read more

  • Lake Gairdner - Day Two: Race Day!

    March 9, 2021 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 16 °C

Excitement all round as we prepare to watch cars and motorbikes race along the salt at speeds topping over 300km/h!

Its pretty special coming to the salt lake during the races, as this is the only time you can drive your car onto the salt lake. They blow all the red dust off the car before you enter the lake and you must take a tarp to park on.

We spent some time at the start line, then went to the pits before setting up along the track.

The salt was so white and bright, we all kept calling it ice by mistake 😂.

The kids had fun collecting the salt to take back to the caravan for the salting of the bait when they go fishing.

  • Lake Gairdner - Day Three

    March 10, 2021 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 19 °C

Day three on the salt. On the way in we saw a sign for the Organ Pipes, so this morning we headed out to see what they were. They were a wonderful rock formation. As we were with Brett, we had to climb them.

On the way back down, a storm had rolled in and rain had set in for the day. We headed back to the van to get some school work done. This also meant the racing was off for the day 😔!

Once the rain stopped we headed down to the lake to see what it looked like wet, it was pretty cool, the kids loved getting their shoes off and seeing what the wet salt felt like on their feet.

Unfortunately, the salt was too wet for any more racing to take place!

  • The Gawler Rangers

    March 11, 2021 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 16 °C

There is no better way to start the day then with a freshly made loaf of beer bread and a cup of tea ☕️. We needed the energy for the slow drive out of the salt lake and into the Gawler Rangers National Park. The rain we had yesterday has turned the roads into mud pits, luckily it meant no dust 😂.

We made it out, safe and sound, (unlike the motorhome who got bogged 😂😂) and found a lovely camp ground and set up for the night. We even found some time to fit in a little bit of exploring before dinner. The kids were devastated to get to the waterfalls and discover they had no water in them.

  • Pildappa Rock

    March 13, 2021 in Australia ⋅ ☁️ 17 °C

I have never seen the Kennys pack up so quick! We woke up and it was raining and we did not want to get stuck out in the Gawler Rangers.

Luckily, the rain stopped and were able to make one last stop on the way out, South Australia’s wave rock - Pildappa.

It was freezing and blowing a gale, but it was an amazing stop, I am glad we got to stop.

  • Perlubie Beach (wow)

    March 15, 2021 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 18 °C

Getting the van on the beach and camping was on our bucket list and this place is definitely ticking that box. Brett and I could barley control our excitement as we rolled into this camp spot!
And to think we nearly booked into the caravan park at Streaky Bay.

First day fun, exploring caves, swimming, and sun baking while the big boys are out fishing, catching crabs, pulling up razor clams and catching squid.

What a great first day a Perlubie Beach, we may just never leave 😍
