  • Brett’s Adventures - Seal Lions

    19 de febrero de 2022, Australia ⋅ ☀️ 19 °C

The waiting paid off, the sun came out, so we grabbed our wetsuits and headed out to see the sea lions.

At first, we were a bit worried as they all seemed to be sleeping on the beach and not wanting to come out and play, but it didn’t take long and the next thing we knew nearly all the sea lions were in the water and ready for a play.

It was great, it was nice and shallow so we could stand and the water was crystal clear. The sun didn’t do much for warming up the water though! Lucky, the sea lions keep you very active which helped to keep you warm.

  • Brett’s Awesome Sea Lion Adventure

    20 de febrero de 2022, Australia ⋅ ☁️ 18 °C

We could not resist going out for another swim with the sea lions. With their island home being so close and assessable it would be wrong not to and wow, there were two sea lions who were up for a play today. It was bloody awesome, we all had the best time, somersaulting, diving and swimming with these two very energetic sea lions.

Once they had had enough we began to feel the cold and jumped back in the boat. Once we got changed, more and more sea lions begun to swim over to the boat for a play, but by this time were were freezing and slightly exhausted from the none stop playing/swimming. We felt bad leaving but went over to view the pups playing in the rock pools. As we go closer we could hear the mums yelling at their pups. Just like normal children the pups yelled back 😂😂😂, but also seemed to be ignoring their calls and not returning to their mums.

    What an epic experience.

  • Date night - Oyster HQ

    23 de febrero de 2022, Australia ⋅ ☀️ 25 °C

Since our last babysitters decided to leave us! we had to employ new babysitters to watch the kids, so Brett and I could have a night out to ourselves.

Luckily, our kids are old enough to use that new babysitter that comes on their iPad ‘YouTube’. It was really cheap too and kept them entertained the whole time we were gone, we are pretty sure they didn’t even move off their beds the whole time we were gone, we are actually not sure they knew we left 😂.

Dinner was delightful and the view was to die for, even though our original baby sitters left us, they did give us an amazing recommendation for date night.

  • Coffin Bay Slippery Slidey Fun

    24 de febrero de 2022, Australia ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

We bring the fun, no-one had used the slide or jumping board all day, but when they heard all the fun we were having they all started to swim out to have a go.

Free fun is the best fun.

Brett and I were a bit hesitant about getting in, I had just washed my hair 😂😂! And so had Brett ( bahahahaha ) but it was so much fun, we all had a ball. Once again I was left thinking about poor Aunty Kat who missed out on this as her family would not get in with her, so we all thought of her as we went down the slide. Sorry Kat, we would like to say the slide sucked, but it was super slippery and fun 😳😂.Leer más

  • Coffin Bay National Park

    26 de febrero de 2022, Australia ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

Big day exploring the National Park. Amazing desolate beaches, beautiful shimmering rock pools and loads of wild life. The park is enormous taking two hours to reach the furthest most point. The track traverses through swamp, rocky terrain, sand dunes and beautiful beach sections. The track was quite rough but that didn’t stop us or the Mighty Triton!Leer más

  • Leafy Seadragon - Tumby Bay

    2 de marzo de 2022, Australia ⋅ ⛅ 22 °C

We did it, we found the illusive leafy sea dragon of Tumby Bay!

I have been waiting a year, since reading about the leafy sea dragon colony that lives under the jetty at Tumby Bay, to go snorkeling and lay my eyes on one of these babies. Last year, when we were here it was just to windy and the sea was to rough, but today was perfect.

With some tips from Kat and Shaun who found them a few weeks ago, we were on our way, I was not leaving without seeing one. I was starting to worry when Brett called out! He had found one!

What a delicate, creature. He moved so slowly and gracefully through the water, we were just able to float above him and watch him swim around. We had to be careful when he went near the weed, as he would camouflage and we would lose him, until he would swim back out again.

Of course the boys once seeing the leafy sea dragon and taking some pics were extremely keen to hit up the jumping platform on the jetty. They all disappeared while I stayed and watched the sea dragon a bit longer. It may be the only time I ever get to see one.

  • Tumby Bay Jetty Snorkle

    2 de marzo de 2022, Australia ⋅ ⛅ 22 °C

Whilst snorkelling for the leafy sea dragons we also explored under the jetty. The colours of the coral on the pylons was amazing.

  • Cowell

    2 de marzo de 2022, Australia ⋅ ☀️ 25 °C

To busy fishing and crabbing to take any photos! Whoops 😬

The kids had a ball catching shitties all day, ( shit fish) every cast they would pull one in. Lucky at about 6.30pm we ran out of bait, so Lachlan would let us head back in! Until he discovered he could catch them on just a hook! We would have been out all night if it was up to him, but I was ready to go back after 8 hours on the boat 😬.Leer más

  • Our Flinders Adventure - Hawker

    7 de marzo de 2022, Australia ⋅ ⛅ 22 °C

We were told to visit this art gallery on our way through Hawker, I thought to my self, na probs won’t do that! Then I read some reviews and they were all saying how amazing this place was, so we decided for $25 we would see for ourselves.

It was truely a mind blowing art gallery, with 5 panoramic rooms. All featuring beautifully detailed paintings of the Flinders, but not only paintings the whole room was made to give you the experience that you were out in the bush. Even the kids were blown away as they walked into each room.

The best room being a 360 degree panorama, which took Jeff Morgan 900 hours to paint 😳.

He also had an impressive rock and gem collection which the boys loved looking at.

  • A drive through the Flinders Ranges

    8 de marzo de 2022, Australia ⋅ 🌙 20 °C

Brett and I thought it would be nice to go for a drive today since we have a hike planned for tomorrow, Lachlan didn’t think so! He complained about being bored all day.

He also did not like the sausages we provided for lunch. They tasted weird 🙄 and the frozen bread we got from the station was not up to his standard.

He, however, enjoyed cutting up paddy melons whilst we were stopped at a look out and made lunch.

  • Finders Ranges - The Hike!

    9 de marzo de 2022, Australia ⋅ ☀️ 20 °C

15km long, 990m high, 5 hours and 11 minutes including breaks.

What an effort! We were all pumped! The views were just spectacular.

We made it to the bluff and we though why not do the off shoot on the way back and check out the view into Wilpena Pound. It was magnificent, you could see the whole way around the rim and into the centre, pictures just don’t do it justice.

To say we were pooped when we got back was an understatement.

We cooled down with a swim in the pool, but then we all struggled to do much of anything the rest of the day, but hang on our beds, or in the chair by the fire.

  • Prairie Hotel Parachilna

    10 de marzo de 2022, Australia ⋅ ☀️ 29 °C

Last stop on our Flinders Adventure was the iconic Prairie Hotel Parachilna.

Brett and the kids have been talking about coming here since we left on our trip around Australia, as Brett and Shaun are always playing a song by John Williamson about this very hotel.

We were very lucky, as it only reopened last week after being closed for the summer.

We splurged and got the Feral Feast Banquet, which the Hotel is famous. It hosts a variety of local berries and plants plus, camel, kangaroo and emu 😳. We were willing to give everything a try that came out. I was devastated when one of the selections for today was the emu liver pate🤢. Given that we were here to try new things and that the kids had already given it a go, I thought I better give it a try! I think I nearly drank my whole glass of wine trying desperately to get the horrid flavour out of my mouth.

The Buffelo cheese was to die for and the kangaroo on the mixed Feral Grill was amazing, it was so tender.

Everyone tried everything, the kids liked all the meats, camel was the least favourite. It was a sausage, but was also a stronger flavour. The Davidson plum tart was voted the favourite dessert tart, when you bit into it the middle custard exploded into your mouth🤤.

It was a great experience, and of course we had to listen to the Hotel Parachilna song on the way to camp that night.

Start of the day my coffee was looking great, steaming away in the sun and I thought to myself, today was going to be a good day.
On the way to do some boring jobs, I spotted some sick looking cars entering the dirt track at Port Pirie. After a little googling it was on, burnouts for the boys. $10 entry and kids free with cheap drinks at the canteen.

  • Lachlan’s Birthday Celebration

    15 de marzo de 2022, Australia ⋅ ⛅ 26 °C

What a way to celebrate his 9th birthday! Brett and I planned out lots of things we knew Lachlan and Brax would both enjoy.

We started the day off with a hearty breakfast of waffles with Nutella, strawberries, blueberries and banana. We all needed the energy for our first activity, jetty jumping at Point Turton!

Then it was off to Flahterys Beach for Lachies fav hot dogs. This beach was perfect for some car boat playing while we waited for the tide to come in. The water here was crystal clear, just stunning. Whilst playing some frisbee, Lachie caught a shovel nose shark by hand. It was hysterical.

Once the tide was up it was time for another surprise, towing the boys behind the car. They both loved it, having a ball. Of course Lachie wanted to try standing up, but we didn’t want broken bones so we stuck to knee boarding.

We keep the best till last! Letting Lachlan drive the car ALL ON HIS OWN! he couldn’t believe it! I think the look on his face in the photos speak for them selves. He drove up and down the beach and was turning it around all on his own, he was beyond stocked!

We ended the day with dinner at the local pub 😊
