• Banff and Icefield Parkway

Our drive up to Banff from Kaslo was uneventful. We drove into a massive rain storm just on dinner time so our roadside cook-up was not quite the picture-perfect experience we had hoped for but it had cleared by the evening.

The next day we got into Banff around lunchtime. With nothing particular booked in we were mostly dropping through to see the famous tourist hotspot in the summer. The next couple days had rain in the forecast so with the afternoon free we decided to head up Icefield Parkway to hopefully see some wildlife.

We got up to Peyto Lake for a late afternoon picnic before driving back to Bow Lake. Having not booked anywhere to stay in the National Park we needed to head back to Lake Louise village. Just as we were nearing the entrance to the National Park we came across a traffic jam of cars and campers on the opposite lane. Noticing that everyone was looking across our lane we slowed down as we approached. Then right beside us there was a small black bear foraging in the bushes. What a treat!

Once back in Lake Louise Village we found some dinner at Bill Peytos Cafe and snuck into the Campground overflow carpark after dark. One clear benefit to having the van rather than a tent.
