Day 1 - Orientation day

As we did not get to bed until 2:30 am we decided to walk around Split today to get a feel for the city before exploring further over the coming days.

Our house is situated in the old town so lots of narrow streets to explore as well as the Diocletian's Place being near by.

Walking eastward along the front we discovered the ferry port (which we will use to explore the islands off the coast) and the only sandy beach in Split, which as you can imagine was very busy.Leer más

Day 1 - Walking westward along coast

This afternoon we walked west along the coast and discovered the marina, with some very large and expensive boats.

After the marina we discovered a number of stoney beaches which were alot quieter and so we pitched the tent and had our first swim in the sea.Leer más

Having danced the night away in an outside disco, whilst showing the youngsters a few new moves, we got to bed around 2 am.

Having got up late we decided to climb up to the view point at Marjan in the 33 degree heat, which was hard work but gave great views over the city of Split and it's port.Leer más

Day 2 - Marjan Forest and Bene beach

Having climbed to the Marjan view point we continued through the Marjan Forest park to the coast on the other side of the peninsula to a lovely little beach call Bene. We spent the rest of the day sunbathing and swimming in the warm sea.Leer más

Day 3 - Row, row your boat

Today we booked a boat to the island of Hvar not realising it was a 3 hour boat ride away. To say the least both Hazel and I were happy to put our feet on terra-firma in Hvar city.

Hvar is a lovely little island which is the haunt of the rich and famous as born out by the 100 million pound super yachts and the posh totty in the habour.

It's well known for its all night parties but unfortunately I am writing this on the top deck of the boat on our way home, although it is 9:20 pm we are unlikely to dock in Split until gone midnight. Hazel has found herself a bean bag and so is riding out the waves while zzz'ing. I am amongst a group of muscle bound americans and a lone ozzie who are resting before the partying starts again in Split, the night is young apprently!Leer más

ViajeroNo we didn't see any film stars or anyone famous but we did see a super yacht which was so big it had it's own full sized helicopter on its own helipad. They were eating dinner on the top deck but we did not recognise any. Xxx

Day 4 - Shopping for a new case

Unfortunately our case was ripped by the baggage handler's at Split airport so our task today was to find a new case we can use when we go home on Monday. So we set about exploring all the little side streets in the old town and we happened upon a local market selling all sorts of items from fruit & veg to, fortunately for us, bags. After a little bartering we managed to buy a new case for around £25.

After a mornings retail therapy in 34 degree heat it was time for the beach and a swim to cool us down.

It's Friday night so we are going to hit the club's to jive the night away until the early hours.Leer más

Day 5 - A historic town

Today we hoped on a local bus to a historic town called Trogir. It's like a mini Split with characteristics of the Romanic and barogue periods. It was probably not the best day for sight seeing as it has been the hotest day so far at 34-35°C but we were able to fine some shade in the narrow streets.Leer más

Day 6 - Last Day of Holiday

It's our last full day and the temperature is up at 35 °C so time to hit the beach for our last swim in the Adriatic sea.

The last picture shows some interesting sun loungers someone brought to the beach, which roll up into a small bag. I haven't seen these before and thought they were a interesting invention.Leer más

Day 7 - On our way home

The day started off with heavy rain, our first wet day so can't be bad. Brighten up later but very humid.

The own of the house allowed us to use the property for the rest of the day as our transfer to the airport was not due until 7:30 pm, which was very good of her and enabled us to have a relaxing day.

We had a bit of a mix up with the transfer which meant we left Split 40 minutes later than planned but as it turns our our flight was delayed so it was not a problem.

Split airport is relatively small so the baggage drop and security was painless so we are now airside waiting to board our flight.Leer más
