This complex owned by the university of Lisbon, comprises 2 museums and 4 hectares (10 acres) of gardens. The botanical gardens have a distinct air of neglect, however it is worth paying the entrance fee to wander among the exotic trees and dense paths of the gardens s they descend from the main entrance towards Rua da Alegeria. A magnificent avenue of lofty palms connects the 2 levels (Eyewitness)

These gardens are not as neglected as yesterdays ones at Belam, but the further away from the entrance the less maintenance. the public garden jardim estralla was much better maintained.

Bird of Paradise flower - Strelitzia regina -that is the orange - one the white one is Strelitzia nicolai , they had both and most gardens have both. They are used a lot throughout the city.
