Then hoof it to gate 55 and yes we ran part of the way to board plane to marid at 900. We got to gate at 910 and they had just started boarding. Too bad we couldn't have just walked across the tarmac!🙃Meer informatie

  • Very long walk in madrid

    13 mei 2022, Spanje ⋅ 🌙 13 °C

We wandered down Calle atoche towards the train station around the beautiful park el retirio then back up to plaza de sol over to plaza mayor where there was a free concert, part of the santa isidro-patron Saint of Madrid, the Saint of farm workers- then down to the cathedral la almudena and the royal palace of Madrid. Another concert at the Jardin Las vistillas, but way too crowded so we wandered back to the plaza mayor where we could no longer get in as it was full. So back to plaza de sol, picking up some cookie snacks on the way and finally back to our hotel after getting lost. We eventually found Calle lavapies and home by 11 pm. This city comes alive as the night progresses and it gets cooler. The park was very busy with strollers. Had an amazing rose garden. And the plazas busy with locals and tourists. Lots of locals dressed in traditional mandarin dress to celebrate Santa isidro!Meer informatie

  • ave train to Sevilla. Atocha station

    14 mei 2022, Spanje ⋅ ⛅ 27 °C

we made it to the train station, got to the correct platform and correct train and correct coach!! this is a high speed train AVE to sevilla. The interior of the train station is magnificent full of indoor tropical plants. (7,000 plants) but we had no time to explore it as we had to make sure we got to the platform primera in a timely manner....LOL the atocha station was built in 1851 and was the 2nd railway line in Spain. wooden platform initially then expanded in 1865 and 1892 with the roof being out on. engineer was saint James...I'm sure not the st James! today it was refurbished in 1984 and 1992 and has the old section as offices and the new one is the actual station. was actually sprinkling rain as we pulled out but now just some clouds and sun. we should be in Sevilla in 2.5 hours!Meer informatie

  • train to seville

    14 mei 2022, Spanje ⋅ ☁️ 22 °C

great way to see the country side. saw many small hamlets surrounded by fields and groves of trees. definitely lots of olive trees, grey leaf, but there was another taller crooked trunked tree that looked evergreen. not sure what tree that was. great hills and what looked like basalt columnar rocks.....is this like the chilcotan plateau and part of an old lava flood plain??? more research needed 😁 later. looked like some nice walks out of a train stop at I think porto lenno. saw purple flowering plant along disturbed areas and at least 2 types of pine trees tall and airy and short and squat. unfortunately we were facing backwards and I started getting motion sickness by the time we got to cordoba. next time we will have to see how you book a seat that faces forward!Meer informatie

    14 mei 2022, Spanje ⋅ ⛅ 26 °C

well we found our way to the apartment. only one wrong turn, got the key from the lockbox ......but it didnt work!! we still have no sim card so no way to contact our host. we know she lives in building but no answer when we ring room g. eventually after trying to find a phone store we have Fernando the owner of AJ and Agua bar help us. he cant get in either, but he knows owner and rings her..she is at a family function but makes her way back to give us the key. all works out in the end and we had a great afternoon in Fernandos bar drinking and eating! This is a very small neighborhood bar and during the course of us sitting there a large extended family comes in. kids et al. they start singing and dancing flaminco style called sevillanas it was wonderful!....unfortunately the upstairs neighbor called down and said it was too noisy so they finished their drinks and moved on. one of the guys a civil engineer who spends a lot if time in London was chatting to us and his English had a British accent. he had lots of great tid bits for us.....the best one was not using the map and just getting lost in the city.....one of my absolute favourite things to do!!!Meer informatie

  • the Mary float "Pasos"

    14 mei 2022, Spanje ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

we are wandering up calle tueton and hear a marching band...got to check that out and we stumble upon a magnificent Mary float
called a Pasos usually part of the Semana Santa or holy week festivities....but why is she out tonight??? Sevilla is known for the most amazing holy week processions by each neighbourhoods parish taking their floats to the cathedral but why this night? Saturday eve. she made a stop at iglesia de la annunciation church a former Jesuit church and one of the most classic semana santa churches in Seville apparently. then turned up another street next to the setus de sevilla a magnificent swirly mushroom like shade structure that covers the square. the pics are blurry but you can see the young men's feet carrying the float. they change teams very 20 min or so so the float stops. there is chicken wire where there heads must be so they have some fresh air. it was a slow procession and I don't know if they would head back to the cathedral or not. you can see the head turban like structures the men wear ( no women allowed to carry so far..) on one of the blurry pics.Meer informatie

we got out at the early hour of 6 pm.....that's what happens when you are up to 2 am and sleep till 1130. not sure if it is jet lag or just the Spanish way! we peeked in at some courtyards in our neighborhood and they were beautiful. the outer doors are open but inner metal door is locked. I think this is all for good air circulation in this hot climate it sure works for our place. also a pic of a neighborhood balcony enclosed in glass with the palm leaf.Meer informatie
