    Meeting David & the girls in Costa Rica!

    I've missed these guys so much! So pleased to meet up with David, Bethan and Caitlin in Costa Rica 😍🥰 And just in time too - looks like things were getting out of control just before I got there!

    Tortuga Island 🏝

    Today we went on a boat trip to Tortuga Island. A beautiful white beach with turquoise sea. Time for snorkelling on the way, banana boat for the girls and books for the adults. Some delicious coconut drinks - and we also saw monkeys, dolphins and whales.Weiterlesen

    Not a hike to Quesera Beach

    Playa Quesera is described as one of the most beautiful beaches in Costa Rica. It can only be reached by a long walk through Curu National Reserve. The girls were not keen, but at least Caitlin was placated by the thought of the nice beach at the end of the walk. Unfortunately, after paying for the entrance to the reserve, we discovered that Quesera beach was 'cerrado' - closed 😔. Just not possible, apparently (heavy rains may have had something to do with it, my Spanish wasn't good enough to find out). So instead a rather grumpy and fruitless walk through Curu Reserve. We saw one big lizard but not much else!Weiterlesen

    Bioluminescent kayaking

    Just down the road from our hotel, we went on a kayaking trip to experience the bioluminescence.

    I never knew this was a real thing! It was absolutely magical.

    Bioluminescence is a reaction that produces light energy in an organism’s body. It’s the same thing that happens with fireflies! Humans can mostly see it through physical disturbance, like when we splashed the water with an oar in the kayak or ran our hand through the water on this tour.

    Some examples of organisms that can produce bioluminescence are fireflies, landernfish (the scary fish from Finding Nemo haha), along with some bacteria, algae, jellyfish, worms, sea stars, fish and some sharks.

    These organisms light up for feeding, protection, attracting mates, luring prey, or even lighting up an area to see it better.

    Canyoning in La Fortuna

    Next stop, adventure in La Fortuna, by the volcano at Lake Arenal.

    One of the best things we did on the holiday was canyoning. We all loved it! It is a mixture of abseiling and rappelling down waterfalls, scrambling over rocks and down rivers, being soaked in cascades and jumping into deep pools. Amazing!

    Ps the photo isn't me - we couldn't take phones as you get absolutely soaked through - but it gives you an idea of what we did!    Weiterlesen

    Ziplining in La Fortuna

    Another great adrenaline filled day. I continued my theme of ziplining round the world and ticked off Costa Rica. 12 ziplines in one day, including one of 1km. Again, we all loved it!
