  • Day 1: Flight from Atlanta to Bogota

    December 27, 2025 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 63 °F

Thanks to Trish, we got dropped off at the airport by 7:30. But everything took time and we were not able to go to the lounge. Requested Pilot for trading cards and they gave a whole stack. Landed in Bogota and emigration took long but luggage took no time and we were picked up by John Rojas in his minivan. He is our personal chauffeur here. Checked into Sheraton and later went to Montserrat taking a cable car to the top and got a good view of Bogota. Dinner was planned at Bombay Rooftop in Zona T. Not recommended but the vibe was good. Tired after a long day, so no night cap.Read more

We went to La Catedral Sal and had lunch in the local quaint town. The restaurant name was Grana. Highly recommend. We rounded out the day with a trip to the Botero museum. Admission is free and it is very well kept. If an art lover, you may want to visit and spend more time. Later we went to the airport and flew into Medellin. Upon reaching late, we checked into hotel and went for a late night bite to the Provenza area. It was very happening and lit.Read more

  • Day 3: Medellin visit to El Peña Rock

    December 29, 2025 in Colombia ⋅ ☁️ 66 °F

Mauricio, our tour guide for the day picked us up at 7 am and drove us to Guatape. It was about an hour and a half drive with beautiful views of Colombia country side. The lakes in Guatape were man made by the construction of a dam. There is one granite rock, El Pena, which is the second largest in the world. The story goes that 3 men scaled the rock years ago and then decided to buy it and convert it into a tourist destination. It is a steep climb of well constructed 748 concrete steps to the top and the views are breathtaking. Mauricio did a walking tour of the city after the climb. He recommended a private boat excursion to an island where we could have lunch. We took his recommendation and had a fantastic couple of hours on that island with exotic drinks and lunch. On the way back, the boat did a tour of Pablo Escobar’s bombed properties and haunts. It was eerie. We drove back to the hotel and took a brief rest. In the night we made reservations at La Provencia, an amazing Italian restaurant. After dinner we went to see the Christmas lights by the river. After viewing the millions of LED lights, we took the cab to La Provenza where the night life is on fire. We went to a roof top and hung out a bit and took an Uber back to the hotel. It was a long day and we got a good bit of Medellin in us.Read more

  • Day 5: Cartagena New Year’s

    December 31, 2025 in Colombia ⋅ ☀️ 86 °F

Alex, our tour operator arranged transportation to visit the Tortumo volcano rock and the plan was to have a mud bath. After we got there and saw the place, we opted out and quickly chose to get to the walled city. Ulysses, our driver did an amazing job of giving us a tour of the old city. We had lunch at Pezetarian, a fusion Japanese restaurant. After lunch, we were on a mission to get us situated at a restaurant for New Year’s Eve. Having reserved a spot for NYE, we got back to the hotel, rested, geared up for the evening with pre game drinks, and headed into the Walled city for dinner and NYE party at Donse Olano. Rung in the New Year’s Eve at the restaurant and then on the streets of Cartagena finishing off with a drink on the rooftop. Managed to get a Uber back to the hotel. It was quite a day and a fantastic NY party.Read more

  • Day 6: Island Hopping Cartagena

    January 1 in Colombia ⋅ ☁️ 82 °F

We booked ourselves a party boat tour to the islands mainly Rosario island. The waters are beautiful, sea was choppy making the ride fun, the stops at the islands were average and we returned back around 4 pm. We got back to the hotel and rested some before heading out to dinner. Given that we had an early morning flight to Bogota and then onto Atlanta, we got back at a decent time, had a couple of beers and played Five Crowns. I won (Ramesh) 2026 was off to a good start.Read more

  • Day 7: Cartagena to Bogota to Atlanta

    January 5 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 61 °F

We took an early morning flight from Cartagena to Atlanta with a layover in Bogota. Since we had over 7 hours of layover in Bogota, we contacted our driver friend John Rojas in Bogota to pick us up from the airport and take us to the Museo del Oro or gold. We spent a couple of hours at the museum and tried to do lunch in the historic center. But, as none of the restaurants were open for lunch before noon, we decided to return to the airport to complete check in. The flight landed on time and Trisha picked us up at the airport. We learned that at the same time that we were returning to the US, Venezuela was attacked and he was arrested for drug trafficking charges. We just got lucky as we had no flight interruptions. Overall memorable trip.Read more
