Flaggen und San Blas Rebellion 1925

Die historische Flagge der indigenen Guna (ehemals Kuna) in Panama, genutzt von 1925 bis ca. 2010, zeigte ein schwarzes Hakenkreuz (Swastika) auf gelbem Grund. Dieses Symbol, Naa Ukuryaa genannt, steht traditionell für die vier Himmelsrichtungen oder den Kraken, der die Welt erschuf, und hat keinerlei Bezug zum Nationalsozialismus.
Wichtige Fakten zur Guna-Flagge:
Ursprung: Die Flagge entstand nach der Revolution von 1925 gegen die Unterdrückung durch Panama.
Symbolik: Das Hakenkreuz symbolisiert die vier Seiten der Welt oder den Oktopus, der laut Guna-Legende die Welt schuf.
Änderung: Wegen der Assoziationen mit dem NS-Regime wurde das Symbol zeitweise (ab 1942) mit einem roten Ring umgeben.
Aktuelle Flagge: Aufgrund der missverständlichen Ähnlichkeit wurde die Flagge im Jahr 2010 in der Region Guna Yala offiziell geändert.

The San Blas Rebellion consisted of multiple attempts made by the Guna to resist this control, and fight back against Panamanian authorities. Resistance against this power resulted in the Revolution of 1925, which resulted in 27 deaths, and initiated the peace agreement involving the United States that followed.

This rebellion is also known as the Tule Revolution, or the Guna Revolution,[1] and was a direct consequence of repression by the Panamanian government. The Guna felt this was crucial for their ethnic survival[2] as the laws implemented by the new Panamanian government directly impacted traditional Guna education, dress and customs.[2]

The Revolution was planned by Guna leaders, and the Guna received US backing for an autonomous region during the mediation process.[1] Through those negotiations, peace was once again achieved. The Guna were made to withdraw their declaration of independence and abide by the laws of the Panamanian government, so long as their terms were agreed upon and the Panamanian authorities did not threaten to eradicate Guna traditions and customs.
