    Last Day In The Lower 48 - The Mission

    Our last day in the Lower 48. Our last day on the American continent. Tomorrow morning we fly west to Honolulu. We are on the final days of our journey.
    Today we decided to see an area not too far from us, The Mission. Touted as perhaps San Francisco’s most of-the-moment neighbourhood, it is the new trendy place for the hipsters and is also Cisco’s oldest neighbourhood.
    It gains its name from The Mission Dolores, an 18th century mission established by the Spanish and one of the city’s oldest icons. Down the road a bit is Mission Delores Park. A beautiful green space with a great playground for the small ones, tennis courts, a playing field and a large lawned are for just lazing around or picnicking. Positioned on the side of a hill the park has views to downtown. I think that perhaps on a clear day you may even be able to see the waters of the bay but I can’t be quoted on that one.
    Across the road from the park is Mission High School, high school of Carlos Santana - information given to us by a local painter we got chatting to in the park (I googled it and it was).
    from there we walked downhill to Valencia Street, the main drag for the ‘trendsetting boutiques and restaurants. There certainly were some nice boutiques and restaurants and a good selection of vegetarian options in a relatively small area (a rare find).
    The neighbourhood is also famed for its outdoor murals.    Читать далее

    San Francisco to Honolulu

    Super shuttle to the airport for our 8.50am flight to Honolulu. Arrived not long after mid-day, shuttle to the hotel, checked in, coffee down the street and into our room at 3pm.
    Dinner was across road at Goofy’s. We had a wait to get in as it is popular and were sat in a corner and perhaps forgotten about briefly but we did eventually get served and dinner was delicious. The We isЧитать далее

    Heading Home Soon - Time to Shop

    Staying just a short walk away from the Ala Moana Centre and the weather is ideal walking weather. Enjoying being back down to one layer, shorts and NO SHOES . It is still windy today but not so bad as yesterday - more of a strong breeze than a gale.
    The Centre is mostly open air on three levels and massive. Cortados and lunch, two pairs of shoes, a top and skirt later and we were ready for the return walk.
    The storm clouds that have been consistent along the mountains brought showers in the early evening but we had just a short walk to The Red Lobster for dinner. Although the restaurant is a chain restaurant, the menu is extensive and the meals good.    Читать далее

    Diamond Head

    After a short bus ride to the Kapiolani Centre, a short walk along the base of the volcano and through the tunnel into the crater, we were at the Visitor Centre and the start of the zig-zag trail up the wall of the crater to the top.
    It was a great walk and the views on the way up and from the summit were stunning. We had a fairly clear day so visibility was good. I was also thankful that we were doing this short hike at this time of year and not in Summer.
    We caught a bus down to the main drag to have lunch and a wander around the International Market Place.    Читать далее

    Walking Waikiki Beach and Kalakaua Ave

    All good things must come to an end. Today is our final day and fly back to Australia tomorrow.
    An easy day walking along Waikiki Beach, lunch at The International Market Place and a stroll back along Kalakaua.
    We didn’t have the customary evening showers today so we ventured back to the avenue for dinner at a Thai restaurant. Delicious dinner for our last holiday dinner.    Читать далее

    Across International Dateline to Oz

    You gain a day on the way over and loose one on the way home. C’est la vie! After an 10+ hour flight we arrived in Sydney at 8.45pm. Immigration was smooth and painless and we were soon walking out the doors and across the road to our hotel. Too late to train it home so we are spending the night at the Rydges. A quick wash and we were downstairs for a light dinner.
    It was a good flight. We received our vegetarian meals that we had arranged three days prior to our flight, in-flight entertainment was complementary as were blankets and pillows. Hawaiian Airlines have lifted their game in economy which is good. Their changes has restored my faith in the airline. The lack of a vegetarian option on the flight over had been poor so we were happy that they had revised their food policy.    Читать далее
