    Jade Buddha Temple grounds

    Visiting the Jade Buddha Temple was a totally different experience vs. Jing'an - we can see why expat tourists might prefer the former and also why the Jade Buddha has a prominent spot on the tour group circuit.

    First off, it has a higher ticket, presumably because it is more well-maintained and has invested in English signage targeted at said tourists. Secondly, it is actually a living monastery - with young monks rushing around, meeting and dining halls, as well as exercise equipment and living quarters. Another source of its appeal might be the more museum-style presentation of its exhibits - largely buddhas, but also a few ancient (?) bronze and copper sculptures and beautiful ceilings.
