On the way, another adventure! 😊

    August 4, 2024 in the United States ⋅ 🌩️ 90 °F

Well, made it to the second leg, on the way to Amsterdam and to then on to Oslo.

A shaky start. Got a notice of a delay and 12:30a (leave 11.17a) and panicked. Had such a bad experience leaving FW on my last trip, 2 days late and only getting out by driving to Toledo OH, This same type of thing sent me into panic mode. Should I find options, repack my ck bag into a carry-on leaving my Trekking poles behind? Finally got to sleep after setting my alarm early. By 7:00 the delay was gone but the flight was still delayed around 1hr but still enough time to make it w/o a mad rush. Whew 😅

The problem is FWA is so small that there is not a lot of options if you miss your main connection, but it’s soooo convenient!

  • D3 to Gålå

    August 10, 2024 in Norway ⋅ ⛅ 46 °F

A full, full day! Nice hike, overcast with a bit of drizzle on and off. The second half was rather (extremely) boggy, like walking on a sponge! The on photo with the white moss is Reindeer Moss. They find it in the winter to eat.
We arrived, had 40 mi to shower, had a 4:30 dinner and then went to see the famous play Peer Gynt. It is in its 35 year on only offered select days between August 1-10 (see video) didn’t understand the language but we got the cliff notes on the show, the stage was awesome! It was a bit long- 3 hrs plus and intermission. But glad I saw it. (Also cold, lower 50’s. Everyone was in there best sweaters!)

  • D4 to Fefor

    August 11, 2024 in Norway ⋅ ☁️ 46 °F

A little slow this morning after a late night seeing Peer Gynt, but on the go at 9:15 after a 8:00 breakfast. Got I. 9.2 miles and much of it was above tree line and brutally windy. Mostly sun though! Just sitting here with a beer and catching up on the last 2 days log and enjoying a beer!Read more

  • D6 Transfer to Nes Grad

    August 13, 2024 in Norway ⋅ ⛅ 48 °F

Road trip! Stopped at the town of Lub with many shops a great bakery and a mountain museum. Aso an old stave church. The first part was constructed around 1150 and added on to in 1634 and 1663 (with the plague in 1300’s)
Curved our way up to the high mountain pass ( Sognefjellsveien ) where we got a good hike in and played in the snow, alpine flowers. Then snaked out way back down to the Nes Grad farmstead where we will spend the next 5 days and hike out from there.

  • D9 Vigdal to Navarete hike

    August 16, 2024 in Norway ⋅ ☁️ 45 °F

Saw several rainbows today! Walking through some rain, pretty soggy underfoot. Pretty stark but beautiful higher altitude Norway hiking. Stopped at 2 of the really nice huts that can be stayed in. At the last one, just a short walk to the road and the end of the hike we shared some local summer aquavit shared to us by our driver, Bord 😊🥂Read more

  • To Flåm/train/zipline/bike, whew 😅

    August 18, 2024 in Norway ⋅ ☁️ 48 °F

Rode with the group to Flåm, passed overt the car ferry. Some stayed and took the ferry, continued on the Flåmsbana railway up 3000 feet. Rick Steves stated that this was most scenic railway in the world. Some took the connecting trains to Oslo and Bergen. I took Zip line down past the steepest most squiggly part of the road and then bike the rest of the way down to Flåm. All
    In some pretty nasty rain.

  • Last Norwegian mountain hike

    August 21, 2024 in Norway ⋅ ⛅ 59 °F

The last chance to get into the mountains, it was a beautiful day… for Norway 🤣
Went up the cable car, 9 miles across the mountains, and down the funicular. Unfortunately I accidentally deleated the track. Had a nice late dinner at the seafood market and walked some more to the old town wharf and around the upper town. Will post some of the town photos together tomorrow. … Oh and run into Caroline from the hike at my hotel breakfast and Sarah, our guide at the top of the Cable car! Wonderful Suprises!Read more

  • Last day - Bergen

    August 22, 2024 in Norway ⋅ 🌧 59 °F

Got a lot of walking in yesterday (39,500 steps) knowing that today would be rather drenching, and it was. Saw the last bits that I wanted to see, visited the Aquarium and now chilling the last bit inside and catching up with this and other end of the trip things. Plane leaves 10… something tomorrow.
Here are Bergen photos. It has a cool old sea/pirate town kind of vibe. Great seafood. Tried sea urchin, ehhh (bland) .
