  • A day in Riomaggerio

    October 15, 2022 in Italy ⋅ ⛅ 19 °C

Ollie and I started our day with a leisurely walk through the sleepy town. Feels very safe and Ollie enjoys time wondering without being in the pram.

At the end of our walk we brought out fresh bread, eggs and an Americano for mummy.

Whilst preparing breakfast we did our daily calls starting with daddy who never answers! Mum next then Annie snd then the Ukrainians who are always eating and drinking when we face time.

After lounging, doing laundry, hanging out clothes outside the window on a pulley, we headed out to explore. When we opened door to go outside an elderly Neighbour asked me to wring out my clothes before hanging as now her dry clothes beneath our line. Lesson learnt.

After walking for two hours Ollie had pizza and a movie at home. I used the time to catch up on my neglected travel diary.

We have been travelling since 26 September and today was the first day to relax and think about easy days ahead. 1. Walk. 2.breakfast and catching up with family at home and general organisation. 3. Main activity for the day making sure I have some hidden treats for my brave walking companion 4. Couple hours lounge time. 5. Brief explore and find dinner to take home and cook you night I did fresh pasta with butter and garlic for Ollie. Me I had anchovies and most beautiful baby tomatoes. 6. Small walk for ice cream and people watching. It is not tourist season but still enough foreign accents floating around.
    7. Home wash feet hands and teeth and to bed. We only stay awake until 6.30 Italy time hence we are up early.

  • Vernazza

    October 15, 2022 in Italy ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

We purchased the Cinque Terre rail pass. 40 Eros and Ollie free. For the next three days we can travel between the four villages endlessly.

Vernazza is the last stop and the busiest but the best. Access to the ocean.

We had a four star lunch on the ocean edge.

This village was home to wealthy Italians. Hence the building are larger snd grander than her sister villages.

In 2011 Vetnazza was hit with a massive flood down the centre of the village.

  • Last day on the Cinque Terre

    October 20, 2022 in Italy ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

Ollie and had I had a billiegoat walk around Riomeggerio and followed by lunch.

The Cinque Terre is a must see. Across the five seaside towns that are accessible by train or walking, the are only 2800 permanent residents, who know each but can tell by accent which town they belong to.

There was a significant flood on the town of Vernazza in 2018. Like other small towns and in fact of of Italy, young people leave to find work in other parts of Europe as the salaries are far greater.

  • 92nd international Truffle Festival

    October 22, 2022 in Italy ⋅ ☁️ 18 °C

Although the truffle festival is smallish, little than you think International Festival. It is what happens around the truffle fest that makes the experience so good.

Music, bands on parade, men with feather hats, bike and running races and of course homage to the white truffle who only makes a brief show and only in Alba. Be back here one day.

Even Italians with good English still place a "za" at end of most words. The holidaysza.

  • A first day in Lyon

    October 26, 2022 in France ⋅ ⛅ 22 °C

I was sceptical. It is so packed with food experiences and amazing cinema. My phone was flat for most of our walk. I hard someone playing violin to the tune of the Ukrainian anthem. Ollie chucked his bunny in the air snd started dancing.

Amazing chocolate shops and patisseries. Bought goodies home for family

  • More of Lyon

    October 28, 2022 in France ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

Lyon shopping centres are amazing. Well planned and food hall on top levels. I managed some last season summer dressers.

It is true, women in particular, that French can be rude. Italians laugh at Ollie`s antics. French openly show their displeasure.Read more

  • Heading to Australia

    October 30, 2022 in France ⋅ ☁️ 18 °C

Finally on the plane. What a complex airport

Now in Saigon and have messed up a bit of plans of an overnight stay. So the airport lounge it is for 12 hours. Good news nearly half way in. There is one massage chair and I'm waiting to pounce on it so Ollie can sleep.

A big airport but very tired and many shops closed since last time we were here.
