Foynes, Ireland

Today we are staying in the village of Foynes which was a hub for "flying boats" in the 1930's and 40's. Visited their museum - what a great choice! The biggest surprise was the connection to the actress Maureen O'Hara who married a Brigadier General in the US Air Force and a pilot for this type of aircraft. In addition to a life-size replica of the Yankee Clipper was a huge archive of Maureen O'Hara memorabilia - costumes, film posters, video clips, and her honorary Oscar. Makes me want to watch some her films when we return. Now relaxing at the Foynes Inn beer garden.Read more
