• Seal Bay, Emu Ridge, Ralpto Domain

    December 11, 2025 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 26 °C

Got a coffee from KI Roasters coffee van. I got talking to a woman who I found out was staying in the apartment below us - Appt 2 of Sunrise on Falie.
Headed to Seal 🦭 Bay. Sea Lion colony. We went out on the board walk. Fantastic views of Seal Bay. The cubs were very active. The female seals are grey. They go out for 3 days at a time to catch food so they lie around when they return to recover. The cubs are left alone for those 3 days. In the hot weather the seals will come up as far as the visitor centre to lie under the bushes in the shade. Saw the skeleton of a junior humpback whale.
Left Seal Bay & went to Emu Ridge Eucalyptus Distillery for lunch. I got talking to a NZ woman who worked there, that was free entertainment!! Watched the 5 minute video there & had lunch. We had to hurry because we wanted to do the 2.30pm Raptor Domain show. It was great as there was only about 15 of us in the audience so we all got to carry or touch the birds. One of the owls flew straight towards us & I got a great photo of it.
At the end we were asked if we wouldn't mind staying behind. They had a wedge trail eagle which was in training & they wanted it to become accustomed to a wheelchair or more particularly wheels. The eagle was very affectionate to the handler & shy. It was a female. Females are smaller than male WT Eagles.
After the show we went on to look at Vivonne Bay.
We then headed back towards 'home' & a outfit called Ki Tru Thai. This is a food van inside a shed/s with seating & tables for about 150. It is only open on Thurs nights. We had been told about it by a few locals but food wasn't good. Fortunately we got there only 15 mins after it opened & were ready to leave 5 mins after the live music started (was loud & not that good).
Headed back to our apartment & custard tart that Peter had made & a cup of tea & quiet evening before bed time.
