    Sydney!

    March 23, 2023 in Australia ⋅ 🌧 22 °C

    Welcome back on my blog!

After 3 month at home I had to travel again and here we go. That time I chooses Sydney as my first destination. I never been before in Australia and I am really excited for my time here.

I arrived yesterday quite late at the airport but I already had the chance to meet a friend again from Bali.

Today I was walking around for hours in the city center. I needed a SIM card, I did some sightseeing and I met another friend. I know here also from Bali btw.

So far I feel really good to be back on the road and like I said I am excited for time here.

  • Katoomba/ blue mountains

    March 28, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ☁️ 15 °C

Three days ago I took the train and a bus to Katoomba. I was excited for some good views and some hikes but the first 2 days the weather was just bad.

Yesterday afternoon then finally some good weather and I had the chance to explore the mountains a bit. Really really beautiful place I highly recommend.

But before the weather becoming good I lost a bit of hope and I booked a flight to the Gold Coast. I am not mad about that decision and happy about a new place.

Now I will take the train back to Sydney airport.

  • Gold Coast

    March 31, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ☁️ 25 °C

Gold Coast feels like a city in the USA, big buildings everywhere and so much stuff for tourism.
I had a really good time here and I met some nice people. The hostel was good and I a lot of fun. Much to do is here not, it’s just walking around, chillin at the beach, staying in the hostel or go for something good to eat. Yesterday I met Sebastian for Germany he is a friend from my dad, it was nice to talk with him after the time he had in New Zealand.

I think 3 nights it’s totally enough, so I am on my way now to Brisbane. I heard a lot of good things about the city and the English boys are also there. I am excited to see them again, the last time was on Bali in September (I guess).

I am still confused with the beer here but it tastes good to be fair.

  • North Starbroke Island

    April 2, 2023 in Australia ⋅ 🌬 23 °C

Trip with the boys and India to the north starbroke island.

It’s a really beautiful place, I saw the first time kangaroos and dolphins. That right now is my „I am in Australia moment“.
The beaches are really nice, the ocean looks great and the weather is perfect.

We had to take a ferry from Cleveland (Queensland) to the island. The ferry is really modern and the restaurant was good.
It’s nice to be with the boys again for some days before I move more north in some days.

  • Brisbane

    April 4, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ☁️ 25 °C

    Leaving time in Brisbane.

Four great days in Brisbane with the boys (and India).
The best days I had so far back on the road, the first night was a bit party time but the other days way more chilled.
One day we went to a animal sanctuary but it was like a zoo, so no photos about it because I don’t support zoos! Yesterday we played tennis and the day before we been to the island.
Is always a pleasure to see the boys for some days and I am sure I will see them again.

The city is not as big like Sydney but it’s a better city for me then Sydney.
So many good looking old buildings that’s what a good city need!

Today my trip in the north continues - next stop Sunshine Coast!

  • Agnes Water/Rainbow beach/Mooloolaba

    April 10, 2023 in Australia

Normally I try to post something after every stop but that time it’s not that easy because there was not much going on. I mean I still had a great time and met nice people but not much photo places.
Yesterday me and Matt been walking around for a while and on our way back to hostel someone picked us up and we not even hitchhiked. But because of that I want to hitchhike again, so I decided to leave Agnes water earlier then I expected and try my luck on the road.

  • Magnetic Island/ Airlie Beach

    April 14, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 31 °C

Magnetic island is a really nice place!

But let’s start from the beginning. After the last time I been to Airlie beach, a place where a lot of backpacker go. Normally you go there for a skydive or a boat tour. I booked both not and left after one night, I was just in ja mood to hitchhike. So I arrived easy the next day in Townsville, that is the place where I had the ferry to magnetic island. I was really excited to see some koalas in the wild but I was not lucky enough..
It’s a nice island with a lot of small hikes and good beaches. I walked nearly the hole time around to different viewpoints. When I was chillin I played chess on my phone and relaxed in the room.

It’s really hot up here and it’s getting just hotter in the north. I am not the biggest fan when it’s hot like that, but today it does not matter. I am leaving the island right now then I try to get a bus to a good place outside the city and I will hitchhike again. I am excited where I end up this time.

  • Mission Beach

    April 17, 2023 in Australia ⋅ 🌧 26 °C

Quick stop before cairns! I was hitchhiking again and I tried to get to cairns, but this day was a bit more difficult then other days. I got 4 cars but the first 2 just for really a short time. Then I landed in the middle of nowhere and I just had one more hour sun. It’s really hard to get picked up when it’s dark. Finally someone came and told me he is going to mission beach, so I decided that I go there too for two nights. I met some nice people here and the weather was great for some walking and swimming. The most time I spent with Sam.

The weather today is really shit it’s raining the hole time. Not the best weather for hitchhiking so I will take the greyhound bus to Cairns.

  • Cairns/ Port Douglas

    April 23, 2023 in Australia ⋅ 🌧 27 °C

Again some more days of traveling. The north is really warm or rainy and humid.
Cairns is a nice city and Port Douglas is also interesting for some days.
Hitchhiking is still really easy, I got a lift today back to Cairns.
The last days been really good, I met so many people and I had a good time.
Not much to say this time, I walk a lot, sweat even more and enjoy just living.
A bit sad that I can’t go more north, there is no hostel and hotel is to expensive for me.
Maybe I will come back another time with a car.

So I am at the airport now, until next time.

  • Camping / Loadstone

    April 30, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

One day camping with the gang from the hostel.
So you can see I am back with the boys and back in Brisbane. Next week I will look for jobs here in the city or somewhere else.

We went with a big group camping and is was really nice and chill. Weather was perfect, no signal, some good conversations and a quite cold night.
I forgot my sleeping bag but I was clever and stole Niall his blanket when he was sleeping.

It’s nice to socialize more with the people here, makes it even better to stay and work here. We will see how that works out.

On our way back we broke one of our wheels but the boys fixed it quick and we went back to Brisbane.

  • Working in Brisbane

    May 12, 2023 in Australia ⋅ 🌙 18 °C

You can see I „lost“ my beard.

At the moment I am just in Brisbane and make some money so I will not upload that much. But when I travel again I will be active.

I found a job in construction and the money is really good so i will do it for a „while“.
The time in the hostel is also really nice with all the people. It’s like we are a big family.
The sad thing is tomorrow my boys leave and some other as well, so the group is getting smaller. It means also I have more time to work, that also means I can leave earlier. I miss traveling already but I also enjoy the time here.

Ah yes I had to shave my beard because of work and I still try to live with it.

    Back to work on Monday!

  • still Brizzy!

    June 5, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ☁️ 17 °C

This app ask me if I am already at home so I think I need a new post!

I am still in Brisbane and that will not change that quick I guess. Work is still good and lost already some kilos (nice!!) because it’s really hard the most time. Every Wednesday is payday and I start slowly to safe some money for future travels. But I am not just working, so I can enjoy the weekend with the people from the hostel. I really love the city and the hostel, everyday I come back from work and it feels like home

My beard is coming back slowly, I like that look with a shorter beard to be fair.

One year ago I was in Thailand and celebrated my birthday there, this time I will be in Brisbane. Feels good to be in different countries for my birthday. Just 4 days to go!

    Wow I get old..

  • August and still here

    July 22, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 19 °C

Life is Brisbane is still going on like before.
I work for over 2 month now at the same site and I really like it there.
Many nice people and the work is not to hard, the money is also good.
I plan about leaving in maybe a month, I think it’s time to see a new city but until I leave I try to get as much money as possible.

The weekends are busy as always.
It is never boring living in a hostel, as soon I come “home” I am surrounded with people I like. (What a good thing)
The most time I spent with fifty and Sid we sit always near the kitchen until nighttime.

Yes that is the life right now, work and socializing.

    Byron Bay with the boys!

When you work hard like us then you need sometimes a trip over the weekend to a nice place with good vibes.
Seven boys from 6 different countries went on a vacation!
Byron bay is a really nice and small surfer village 2 hours away from Brisbane.
We had a good and really funny time.

The last photo shows perfectly how the boys felt today after to much party yesterday.
I went today on a little hike to the lighthouse.

Now we are back in Brisbane and tomorrow we are all back to work.
Sure we will do another trip in the future.

  • Goodbye Brisbane

    September 21, 2023 in Australia ⋅ 🌙 17 °C

After nearly 5 month in Brisbane I finally leave. I really had one of the most amazing times in my life in that city. Living so long together with people and make friends at work was just amazing. I will never forget the time and the people I met. I mean I have a tattoo with the boys, so no chance to forget them. Brisbane will be in my heart forever and I will be back sooner or later.

I didn’t plan to leave now but things in life change so I decided to pack up and go somewhere else. The timing feels really good and I am excited to be back on the road. Next stop will be Melbourne and I also have plans for after but more about that next time.

  • Melbourne

    September 26, 2023 in Australia ⋅ 🌙 14 °C

    First “holiday” stop after Brisbane.
Melbourne is a massive city, a bit to massive for me to be honest but it was good for a quick stop.
Was really nice to see some friends again from Brisbane. I had no idea the city is bigger then Berlin (5 mio. people)
I walked around a lot and tried to see as much as possible. The free tram zone helped as well.

I still can not believe that like 80 percent of the people are asian here, felt a bit like being back in Singapore.

Now I am off to Shepparton, seeing Tom and Tom (big fella) for a night and then I try to get to Perth.

  • First 3 days of hitchhiking

    October 1, 2023 in Australia ⋅ 🌙 17 °C

The first 5 days (3 days of hitchhiking) are over. I already had so many nice experience and I met so many nice people.
So far it works really good I had over 10 lifts, around 1000km and 4 nights free stay.
I was waiting one time over 2 hours but normally it’s less then one to get a lift.

I stayed two nights in Moorook and had the opportunity to go on a jetski, that was really fun and also my first time.
People are so helpful and invite me for everything. Is nice to have a adventure like that and see the country in a different way.

Tomorrow I keep going with the journey to Perth.

  • Last days of hitchhiking and Perth

    October 5, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 20 °C

That’s it my hitchhiking journey came to an end! After 8 days in total and 6 days of hitchhiking i reached Perth yesterday evening. Over 3400km was my way from Shepparton. I had 19 lifts in total and stayed 5 nights for free.
It was even quicker then I was thinking it will be but everything worked out really good and I had a great time. I met so many nice and helpful people, had great conversation and did also a lot of sightseeing at the same time.

That will not be the last time I been hitchhiking but for the moment I am done.
Now it’s time to make a bit more money before I leave Australia.

  • Last days of work and Christmas

    December 27, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 33 °C

    Hello it’s me again!
I was really quite here for a while but now the content starts again.
After my trip to Perth I went back to Brisbane and back to work. Life was like always here I was “just” working and hanging out with my friends.
But now after like 7-8 month of working here my time comes to an end.
I had my last work day 5 days ago and I am happy to be free again and I am also happy about the money I saved.

New year is coming soon and then it’s time to leave Australia. I had a great time here and working was also fun but it’s time to travel again. I miss being a real backpacker!

8 days left in Brisbane and then back to Asia.

  • Taipei

    Jan 10–13, 2024 in Taiwan ⋅ 🌙 12 °C

    Goodbye Australia, hello Taiwan!

Finally we are here, a new country and journey. This time I am not traveling alone, Leon joins me for a while and we do 2 month Taiwan together.

After meeting Leon on the airport in China we had one more flight to Taipei together.
We had a really good time, every day was something new going on. Everyday we walked a lot and explored the city without a real plan but it was never boring.
The tea here is absolute amazing btw.
It’s feel great being back in Asia I really missed it. Just great food and culture over here.

    Interesting fact:
The Taipei 101 was the highest building from 2004-2009 (508m).

  • From Taipei to Hualin

    January 10, 2024 in Taiwan ⋅ 🌬 14 °C

And so the hitchhiking journey started but first we left Taipei with a train.

Hitchhiking works quite ok here and we had plenty really nice lifts.
Our first night we spent in Pinglin, finding a sleeping spot was really hard and we work around for a while. There are no hostels or hotels so we had to sleep outside.
Camping areas been too expensive and nice nice enough but no problem we found a place on a not used bridge next to the river.
It was a bit rainy in the night but we survived.

Day 2: In the morning we visited a tea Musen, it was not really good to be honest. Back on the road a truck driver picked us up and then we took the train to Nan’ao. In Nan’ao we slept in a Cave Right Next to the ocean, that was a really nice spot. We been sitting on the beach with a campfire and had many deep conversation before we went to bed.

Day 3: not much hitchhiking for us because the train was really cheap. We just went to Hualin. We got a really cheap room and planned our next adventures.
Now we go in the mountains and back to the west coast.

  • Hualian to Zhushan

    January 14, 2024 in Taiwan ⋅ ☀️ 24 °C

After being on the East coast for two days we already had to leave back to the west side of Taiwan.
After a short train ride we started hitchhiking in the taroko national park.
Just one road for two days, a really nice one. We went up to over 3000 meter.
The first night we slept in a little old house next to a Tempel.
The second day we went for a hike on a 3422 meter mountain. In the afternoon we had a really long lift with a guy that spoke a bit of English (not many people can speak English here). He invited us in his house and showed us around for a bit.
3 days left before our first work away started so we stayed in zhushan for two more nights, probably in the best Airbnb ever!!
We had a flatscreen, Nintendo, darts and a whole house for us. (30 euro a night)
At the first day we also met a girl and went with her for dinner, she invited us for her wedding at the 21.02 but sadly we have no time. People are really kind so far but it’s hard sometimes because nobody here speaks really English.

Next stop work away in Chiayi!

  • Workaway Chiayi

    Jan 14–22, 2024 in Taiwan ⋅ ☀️ 25 °C

There we are first workaway in Taiwan and the first one in my life!

Location: tea shop from Steve in Chiayi

Other people from workaway: 6 (included Leon)

People that left early because off Problem with Steve: 3

How many time we climbed over walls: 2 times

Yes Steve was not an easy guy especially to some of the girls, we still had a good time because the gang we had was class.
Main group: André (55 from Germany/Colonge) Achan 22 and farm owner from Japan, jolynn 27 from Singapore.

The work was really easy and not often so we had plenty of time to do something with each other. We had a great time, played chess, went to a bar, worked around in the city and much more.

So I would say first job was really good even when we not really worked.
Off to the next one, back to the East coast.

  • Chiayi to Dulan

    Jan 23–30, 2024 in Taiwan ⋅ ☁️ 15 °C

On our way to the second workaway and back hitchhiking. Again we took a road through the mountains. So far so good, at one point in the mountains they told us that the road is closed for 2 more days. That was no problem because we had time before our new job starts. We had a nice apartment and after 2 nights we kept going with our journey.
The mountain region in Taiwan is really beautiful. On Saturday we arrived at our destination but then we got told that the workaway is not happening because they forgot us.

We needed a new plan, good that we had a recommendation from a hostel some villages away. In this hostel we stayed 3 nights and slowed everything a bit down. Sometimes it’s good to relax and not be on the road the whole time.

No works means we have more time to travel.
We have now 3 weeks left until we work again. Let’s see how we use that time.

  • South of taiwan

    Jan 31–Feb 7, 2024 in Taiwan ⋅ ⛅ 25 °C

After spending 3 nights in a hostel we wanted to go back into nature. We decided to do an old indigenous track on the beach for 2 days. Was maybe the hardest 2 day “walk” I ever had, we been just walking/climbing over rocks. I was really dead when we finished but also happy that I made it.

After the hike we needed some rest days and camped next to a surf spot in Gangkou. As soon as we been back to full streng we kept traveling to Hengchun, we visited the most southern point Taiwans on the way (nothing really special).

In hengchun we found straight away nice people and they invited us to stay with them. The one guy was half German/ half Taiwanese and we slept in his party bus for 2 nights. His name was Jimmy and er had a great time with him. The last photo is from his party ground/home.

One day while being In Hengchun we went for a quick climbing session until we found out we are in the middle of a military area.
Was fun and lucky nobody saw us.

We also saw Achan again for one day.
Now we go back up north to Pingtung.
